Battle of L.A Thoughts

Battle LA was a bad Independence Day.

I’m not a big alien movie fan, I hate the shaky cam, and I hate the amateur cam; this movie basically started off all wrong in my book.

The rallying monologue was far inferior to the one in ID. The movie didn’t have good interaction like Will Smith - Jeff Goldblum. Aaron Eckhart has the emotions of a garden variety tree frog. They barely showed the aliens and didn’t bother to give them any sort of personality. Actually, no one had any personality.

All in all: unimpressed.

I haven’t seen it, but I have a thought concerning the trailers I’ve seen. So, LA gets invaded by aliens, and the military fights them off, eventually (I’m assuming) sending them packing. The first thing I thought was, “Isn’t like 90% of our military overseas?” I would call that a plot hole, unless they explain it somehow.

No.

I saw it today and liked it.

Inferior to the one given by President Bill “I belong in the skies!” Pullman?? Really?! Man, it must be a real stinker then!

Yes. At least that one had comedic value. This one was straight uninspiring-ly lame. Hell, go watch it just to see how bad a speech could be.

movie looked awful from the trailers.

Wait, are we talking about Battle: Los Angeles that’s in theaters now, or Battle of Los Angeles on the Syfy channel? Ha.

I caught Battle LA this weekend. I liked it, but I think it really suffered from being PG-13 instead of R.

For example, the scene on the freeway when they’re pinned down by the walking cannon thing and one of the Marines said something like, “Hey, shoot that ass behind the gun.” I was thinking, ‘Asshole. You wanted to say asshole. Geez.’

But on the whole, I thought it was a decent war movie that just happens to have us fighting aliens. Kinda like how Event Horizon is a horror movie that just happens to be set in space, or Rocky is a love story that just happens to be set in the boxing world (Okay, that’s a stretch, but my buddy is convinced that what Rocky’s about.)

Really? That’s what’s keeping me away from it.

ID4 was a pile of shit movie. Any movie with Will Smith one-liners is shit. Space faring race beat down by a virus written on a macbook? Really?

This movie was really fun. They just needed some better dialogue and this would have been an A+ sci/fi action movie. There were a few lines that made me cringe.

I thought it was pretty good. Sure it could have been better, but good enough to satisfy my needs. I can’t believe someone said Independence Day was better than this movie.

Agreed. Independence Day was fucking terrible. This movie had good action and a good story. The dialogue wasn’t the greatest, but this wasn’t a Tarantino/Scorcese/Kubrick movie either. If you went in expecting awesome dialogue then you’re just unrealistic.

It kept my son and me thoroughly entertained for 2 hours, which is the point.

Badass movie…I thought the ending lacked a little imagination…but overall I thought it was good…

if you didn’t like ID4, you suck at life. everyone ate that shit up when it came out

Not as bad as Skyline though…

I only saw it because of Michelle Rodriguez…

Never saw Skyline. Not worth seeing then?

Skyline looked lame to me. This one had more appeal because it was more military based fighting.

Wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting, it certainly didn’t deserve the half start that Ebert gave it.

I wasn’t sold on Harvey Dent playing a marine but it grew on me.
