Coach Thib has pointed out before that increasing volume when cutting is not the way to go, the reasoning being that the increase in cortisol is particularly hazardous for your gains when in a reduced calorie phase. He recommends fewer sets, pushing each set closer to failure (see below). If I were to do my cutting phase again I would probably use lower volume.
