Bad Injection? First Time Injecting In Quad

So i got at home trtfrom my dr. I injected myself this morning in the thigh, and now i have what feels like a charlie horse pain right above my knee. Like 5” from i jection site. Is this normal?
Sorry of it seems like a newbie question!

What size needle and how much did you inject? If it goes SubQ it can run down your leg in the fat and cause pain downstream of the injection site.

Quad injections for me were like Russian roulette. Some painless, some almost crippling the following days. I just do delts now.

The needle was 25 gauge 1”
I thought it was long enough. It was 160.

Delts dont hurt? Do you use a 5/8” needle for delts?

1/2 inch for delts. They hurt initially, the muscle gets used to it. Nothing like quads though.

Thighs are better than quads. If you do them enough you will learn the spots that don’t hurt and can reliably inject there regularly. Ventrogluteal is pain free every time, you could even pin with 18-21g and not feel it (I’m not recommending this), there aren’t many nerves there. Delts are fine with a 5/8” needle, but you can’t inject more than 0.5-1ml without the oil leaking out. I’d say they are better for injecting multiple smaller doses throughout the week.

Personally I rotate between the ventroglute and high up on the thigh since I only inject once or twice a week.

I don’t recommend injecting the delt with longer than 1/2”-5/8” unless you know what you’re doing. It’s easy to hit the axillary nerve if you’re off the mark. I did that once and it was some of the worst pain of my life. Never again.

That would be insane im sure. Yeah i wonder if i didnt go deep enough and it got into the fat instead. Because its a slight bump above the knee, but i figured a 1” needle into the quad would be good. Where my thumb was in the pic was close to where i injected.
I had the dr doing the uppder glute but it was a little tricky for me to do it this morning so i figured id try the quad. But i may stick to glute or maybe try delt.

Try on the side of your leg like this.

Thanks i will!
So im guessing i shouldnt worry about the pain from this one? That the bump n soreness bending will passp

Yeah. I wouldn’t worry about it. It happens occasionally. For me it will stick around for 3-4 days sometimes. If it goes more than a week or you start getting a fever, then you can start to worry.

Right on i appreciate it. Just sucks working construction when you can’t squat down. LOL.
Ill have to def try the side.
Do you wax your legs? Mine look like a damn Sasquatch lol

No, mine are hairy also haha. That was just a picture I found on the internet.

Haha right on bro thanks

A few more tips.

Probe the spot with the needle, if you start to feel it sting really bad, move an inch over and probe again. I found that for some reason, if there is surface pain, it leads to a painful injection.

If trying the delts, use an insulin syringe rather than trying to push a 1” half way in.
