I think it’s the product of ridiculous hype… no one who I’ve spoken to about it thought it was that good. I wouldn’t even put it in my top 5 films of the year.
Apart from this one guy, who said he thought it was the best film of the last decade. I’ve since realised that he’s a moron.
It looks amazing…but that’s about all I can say for it. 95% formulaic toss.

I don’t have a Blu-Ray. I don’t have an HD anything. I STILL bought Avatar because I am that much of a movie junkie. I don’t need to see it in 3D. That crap gives me a headache. Yes, it wasn’t as original as most people would like, but it was one helluva movie to watch. Any movie that I can escape into is a good movie. And to Grneyes and Imhungry, I actually enjoy it when you two reference each other. Pretty cool in my book.
I thought it was a visually impressive movie. However, as I walked out of the theater I turned to my wife and said, “I think I’ve seen that movie before…except it was called Dances With Wolves.”
I didn’t see it in theaters but bought it. I do have a HD tv and I thought it was a good movie. Long but really enjoyable, graphically. As stated before the story has been told 1000 times over. Really the money it made was from the visual effects not the story…
This thread exemplifies another reason why it’s having crazy sales.
And good grief…it’s just a fucking movie. If you don’t like it…so be it. Acting as if it’s beyond belief that millions of people are entertained by it is just as moronic as those that hail it as the greatest movie of all times.
The point of “Avatar” is that white men and industrial civilization are evil. Just like “Titanic,” which portrayed rich people are evil the poor people in steerage as the heroes of the film. James Cameron is a retarded liberal jackass, the Michael Moore of feature films.
I never saw it at the movies so i rented it yesterday on Blu Ray. I figured the movie was suppose to be visually stunning so why would i want to watch it on 480p rather than 1080p. The visuals were great. The story, not so much. I don’t see what the buzz was all about. I’m glad i didn’t purchase it because i would probably never watch it again. Overrated!

You didn’t watch it in 3D. The Buzz was about 3D.
This might be the first 3d movie where color’s actually popped. It wasn’t like the old red and green glasses, but wasn’t like real life it was something very different.
Without 3d the colors are just cool visuals, they might be nice to you or maybe not, but that aspect has been around a while specially on computer games and screensavers.
The 3d technology was what this movie was showcasing, it was more about that then the plot. Most interviews were about the technology. It’s better to debate how you like that then the movie, the plot is pretty much recycled recycled.
When it comes to movies this long I base them on how long it feels to me in the theater. It did not feel like a close to 3 hour movie, so I think it was good. They did not develop ALL the characters, but they did develop the relationship between the girl and they guy.
That was kinda the point, haha. Anyone who says they enjoyed the movie for the story is fucking lying. It’s not that the story was bad, it was just something we’ve all seen/read/heard a thousand times before. Watching it at home would ruin what made the movie memorable.

I’ve seen at least nine versions of Akira Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai”. The same story told in different formats, different settings, and different scopes. There was the original Seven Samurai, The Magnificent Seven, a 7 Samurai anime, even Star Wars: The Clone Wars did a Seven Samurai episode. For the most part I have enjoyed them all. Just because a story is retold again and again doesn’t make it any less appealing, entertaining, or pertinent.
I saw Avatar twice at the theaters and I think I enjoyed it more the second time I saw it. Why? Maybe it was the whole vibe of the theater crowd, or maybe I was seeing things I missed before. Either way I think its a great movie, and I don’t fault the 6.7 million folks who enjoyed it enough to buy it on DVD/Blue-Ray.
Plus, Zoe Saldana is hot. I’d bang her even as a blue cat-lady.

This type of thinking is fucking hilarious.
Last I checked, James Cameron wasn’t anything but white.
“Conservative white males” who act like any media that doesn’t mirror their belief structure is somehow attacking them make me laugh.

You poor poor victims, you.
No, X. It’s YOU who’s fooled by the not-so subtle message that this film carries!
Luckily, iflyboats is able to see past the pretty, distracting colors and see the real truth!
(Yes, i’m being sarcastic)
Why the fuck can’t people go see this damn movie, be entertained for three hours, then go the hell home and let it go? Jesus.
That’s right. The script for Titanic was written by a plucky young iceberg, who was attempting to clear the name of his ancestor by exposing evil rich people as the true culprits.
Hitler would have won the war if he’d have incorporated nine foot-tall blue aliens on giant parrot/lizard hybrids into his well-oiled propaganda machine. Nowadays it wouldn’t work because we have lots of clever people who can see right through that sort of thing.
