Attention Firefighters!

All firefighters are fucking overpaid until your house burns down.

Well what do they get paid? If you are going to make that statement base it on facts. I am not a fire fighter and do the FF in your city also work EMS?
A friend of mine got a hold of the annual salarys which includes overtime pay and it averaged about 250k per year. My same friend then asked for the annual salarys of the PD and the city made it really difficult to obtain that data.
With the OT that may be possible and is a valid point, dont tell where you live cause there will be a rush of people joining the department.

you know all of that information is public record right? Anyone who wants can go down to city hall (i believe its city hall?) and check out that information if they’d like.

also, you’d have to be pretty retarded (or ignorant) to actually believe that the average FF makes 250K a year… since the average starting salary for a FF in California is $46,729 a year that would mean higher ups would be making 400-500K a year? come on son

My interest in fire fighters just increased exponentially!

For a firefighter? Our chief makes less than 1/2 that.

You should be able to pass the test without specifically training for it. It is supposed to be a test of your lifestyle and fitness, so hopefully once you get hired you don’t become sedentary.

You have more of the ability to argue this, I do know some paramedics that work Oc Med for a refinery that make 6 figures with the OT. They actually pull more than I do. With the 24 hour shifts that a lot of companies run for FF, could be possible. Not likely but who knows. If it is not killing a city’s budget I would rather that money be spent on FF, Cops and Medics who are great quality.

Edit and Greg nice gun show.

agree 100%. However, I have a hard time believing 250k is the average, as you said.

Yeah, because I’ve never heard of people dieing in a house fire before. But as long as you get your money back for the house!

Good luck in the process OldSchoolSwole, being a firefighter is THE best job in the world. We get paid crap, relative to the amount of tasks we do and what is expected of us by our employers and the public. Non-fire service employees will always take pot shots at us, including our own children. I’ve walked in those shoes as a firefighter’s offspring, I opted for the better option when my opportunity arose.

Granted, this better option involves an increased chance (75% increase) of dying of a variety of cancers. Despite the number of unhealthy, unfit firefighters, there are more that are fit for duty, and life, that die of cardiovascular disease. Scratch your head and find that T-Nation article that discusses the fallacy of fitness and health. Even a good number of us have messed up hormonal profiles and screwed up insulin sensitivity due to a lack of sleep. We may even save a life or two, then lose our own. Some of, or most of, your best friends and mentors through your career may die before your very eyes as you are bedside, either holding their hand or embracing their loved ones as they pass. Sometimes the only thing investigators or search crews will find post-alarm is your helmet. Yes, EMS runs are a majority of most municipal FDs calls. In some areas, firefighters carry guns. Their job description is far more vast than a run of the mill muni-firefighter. Those guys, I read in the their application, make big money. They also may be dealing with more stress than some troll on the internet. Want some motivation? When your class puts in the effort and take that oath, it’s best to know that you are all gonna die. Accept that fact, live life aggressively (big ups to Mahler), and leave nothing to the judges.

Here’s the funny part- I only spoke of my experiences over the last decade. Other membership may not get to “enjoy” such things and boast that shit like this doesn’t happen. I guess they’re “lucky” and will enjoy their pensions for a lot longer than a couple yrs. I’ve yet to meet a firefighter that has such sizable pay-stubs that they make $200k or even $100k. Management aren’t really firefighters much anymore. Some of them still walk the walk though, and never forget where they came from.

Damn haters, next time- I’ll grab one of you to extricate the charred remains of what once were young men who I coached when they were in high school athletics…and present them to their families with a respectful explanation. I’d have you do it so I won’t have both their burnt flesh and explosives residue all over my bunker gear…you shits.

LOL at the 250K comment! The fire-rescue down here are all firefighters AND paramedics and they start at roughly 50k per year and that’s from constantly running calls from flipped cars to passed out bums while putting yourself at risk for diseases such as Hep C and HIV and then at risk for lung damage and burns.

ignorant comment. first 250k my guess is he looked at the pensions for ALL city workers not just FF. secondly, i think california is the highest paying state for FF in the country yano due to the gigantic cost of living, but nothing along the lines of 250k a year makes sense to me. please post, so that i can decided where to live.

should we all start bitching about how much CEOs make, i mean they run a company that can make millions of dollars but fuck them for being better off than me. nurses usually make more and only work 3 12’s week fuck them too. (not a bash DJ, this is for reference lol). also when your mother has a heart attack and decides to call 911 fuck it, its 0200 why should we get up to save her, i dont know her, right guys, RIGHT!!! i bet you will love the FD when they get her to a STEMI lab because due to their advanced training know to bypass the first ER since they dont have a 24 hr STEMI lab and save her life. fuck it why drive 6 extra mins, well take her to ER 1 and let her die there because they cant get the cardiologist there in time, i mean we went to the closest, legally were covered.

your house is burning down and these men and woman save your childs life, they dont deserve good pay or a pension all they did was save your childs life. youd rather save some on taxes than pay the money in case you ever need them.

theres an article, ill try to find it, about a town that had to pay something like 200$/year for fire protection since they didnt have their own FD so this way the neighboring town could afford to cover their area. guy 1 refused to pay his 200$/yr, where they even offered payment plans, but was able to buy a nice flat screen tv because obviously hed rather watch some good tv than protect his home, where he lives. Fucking house goes up in flames, FD responds noone is inside. they let it burn down. rules are rules. they stopped it when it approached his neighbors house who opted to pay for services. At the time it was burning he went up to the chief and said i will pay you anything to save my house. that was a negative. (my feeling on this particular story will not be stated, but its to show the ignorance of others) suddenly when he needed it he was willing to do anything for the services, too fucking bad he wanted a flat screen tv. respect those who serve you, military, police and fire. it appears you are military and i really would have thought you would have a better respect for people like this seeing as youve served your country. youll really hate it if someone you love dies bc the medics werent there, i bet you would be willing to empty your bank account for that life. pay your taxes and worry about yourself not what others are making. join the FD if its bugging you that much.

i thnk nationally the average is somewhere around 35,000K thats a rough estimate not quoting anything. boo fucking who someone made more money that you this year.

Great Job! Now starts the most difficult part. FYI keep a copy of that 20 page document, from this point forward ALL of your answers have to match.

Keep focused on the bigger picture. It is worth all the hard work, a very rewarding job. Congratulations.

Sure, it might be a while though. I have higher priorities in my life.

Hey I have a question:

Is it illegal for a landlord to rent out a house (semi-detached) where a basement “bedroom” has no windows and only one exit (door)? I’m trying to look it up now but thought I’d ask here too because of its obvious fire hazards.

EDIT: So I did some research and I found that it is illegal. Now just trying to find the law online so I can print it off and hand it to my landlord.
The fire code states that every living area must have two means of egress, so you need a door and a window.

EDIT: Saw that you already found your answer. Nevermind

Thanks. Yeah I found the law too. For Ontario at least…

 1. (1) Subject to subsections (2) and (3), every bedroom, living room and dining room shall have a window (which may be part of a door) to the outside of the building. O. Reg. 517/06, s. 22 (1).

(2) A window is not required in a dining room if it has artificial lighting. O. Reg. 517/06, s. 22 (2).

(3) A window is not required in a living room or dining room if, blah blah.

What a cock sucker of a landlord though. Tried to convince me that it’s not against the law.
