@T3hPwnisher I truly appreciate that. For what it’s worth, my time in service may not be over, but this particular path is just not one that I morally feel I can be a part of. To say nothing of myself, I want no part of an organization that treats its junior people this way. That isn’t to say I’m not interested in some other paths, talking with some recruiters for that now. Either way, I intend to still find some way to do a job that I feel contributes to the greater collective. (Which could easily lead to me a long diatribe about my views on the duties of citizenship, but I feel this is not the place)
Work for today:
45 min easy run, 5.6 mph
15 min stretching
Notes:
saw the sun for the first time in a bit today. Honestly just shocking what an immediate impact it has on my mood and energy.
run felt easy
I feel “stiff” when I’m on the ship too long, which I’m realizing is just due to much more limited movement. I’m still moving a lot, but I do a lot less raising arms, kneeling, just odd motions of the body that I tend not to do in tighter quarters, and I feel my body tighten up without doing it.
Shockingly, I’m finding yes, which is very different than my entire previous running history would tell me. But I’m a strong convert on zone 2 work for runs, and I’ll be damned if they don’t get me in drastically better shape without being utterly miserable
I was only joking mate. As a former runner, I found lots of runs enjoyable, hell even some of the disgusting track work was enjoyable in a masochistic way.
back on land. Been an absolutely terrible last two weeks at work. Professionally, I’m still doing very well, but a lot of my peers took some hits, and the grind was wearing all of us pretty thin.
have Covid. Fun. Everyone in my stateroom has Covid. Freaking Petri dish. My second time having it. I don’t think it’s a coincidence both times I’ve caught it, I was on a rotating shift work schedule without much sleep. Just tanks the immune system, it’s frankly shocking how noticeable the difference is In how often I get coughs or colds when I’m doing this type of work compared to having some normal sleep patterns.
resting heart rate is 120. So at least I’m getting my zone 2 work in.
talked with some career managers about pursuing the route I’ve been looking into. Running into some issues, looks like I may not be allowed to go for the pettiest of loopholes. 100% a result of the piss poor retention the nuke community has right now. I knew it was going to be a long shot, but im frustrated on principle. Even getting out of the Navy, they still have their hooks that would keep me from Army afterwards. Does neither branch either good at that point.
on a positive note, I essentially have 2 months of normalcy. Easy schedule the next two weeks, afterwards I’m going to a school for 2 months where I will work a normal 40hour week. No duty, no overnight shifts, nothing. I am beyond excited.
im going to use the next couple months of normalcy to just go all in on training. I feel like I haven’t really had the chance to do that. I give everything I have whenever I train, but my sleep schedule and work hours definitely hold me back fairly significantly. Take those factors away? Oh it’s on.
@Bambiwithhorns just from being sick. The elevated heart rate was for about the last two days, finally relaxed a bit this morning, which is also when my fever started to break
@T3hPwnisher ngl, Covid won todays round. Absolutely down for the count, was hacking up a storm all through work, and could only go a few decks at a time before having to stop and catch my breath. Not ideal. Have a long weekend though, so some sleep and recovery should have me good as new!
post to follow explaining some programming change.
still sick as hell. Fever will not break, but was able to hold down some food, so i figured some blood flow would do me good. Definitely felt weak, definitely coughing up a lung in between sets
went on a walk after this, just to get some Sun and some movement. Covid really is kicking my ass this time.
