What were we talking about again?

Ahh yes, dating. When are you picking her up?

Wait…hang on. Squatting.

Yes. Ed Coan something. Haha. He talked about that in a YouTube video yes…can’t remember which one exactly. Could have been a starting strength interview?

Work for today; 531 c5w2d2

Press: 45x10, 95x5, 120x5, 135x5, 155x5+ (3)…. Shit, let me try again…. 155x5+ (2)….
FSL: 120x5, 120x5, 120x5, 120x5, 120x5

  • superset all sets with 15 band pull aparts

Lat Pulldown: 90x15, 130x5, 165x11, 165x11, 165x11, 165x11

Notes:

  • alright, did this after 36 hours of being awake, and my body just would not play. Hit a set at 155 and nearly passed out. Tired again, just wasn’t there, nearly feinted again. I don’t think I have any big issue, just too long running with too much fatigue, need to cool my jets a bit. Going to grab some extra sleep tonight, enjoy a healthy but hearty cheat meal, and do some active recovery tomorrow, hopefully be back firing on all cylinders by deadlifts Friday.
  • followed the “I’m not doing jack shit” template, except kept my pulldowns just because pulling makes my shoulders happier the next day.

Hmm…actually, now I’m thinking about this. I was making the biggest 531 gains doing 5s pro and FSL…. A template Jim says is boring, but good for people with heavy workloads who just need something easy to recover from…

I responded great to Juggernautai, a high volume low intensity program where I was going to failure maybe once every 6 weeks…

I think my body really, really likes submax work. Or rather, my work schedule runs me into the dirt already, and I don’t have too much left in the tank for recovery after the weeks I put in.

Alright, I owe more detailed replies, but I can’t keep my eyes open, so I’ll get to them tomorrow.

Chest meal was a rotisserie chicken. That’s it. Felt like a caveman, and loved it. Now it’s bedtime

BPA: Bx20, Bx20, Bx20

Conditioning: mowing my lawn with a 45lb pack

Notes:

  • alright, figured out what went wrong last week. Just ran my CNS into the ground. Combination of a few weeks of true come to Jesus sets on squat and dead, combined with the 100 hour weeks, little sleep, and not doing the best with food intake just left me burnt. Woke up the next day feeling like I had the flu. Brain fog, voice was shot, took a couple days to eat lots of food and sleep as much as work would allow. Feeling better.
  • need to tighten it up, just to function in life really. Attacking this in 2 fronts. 1) going back to 5s pro and FSL. It’s boring, and I don’t get to push sets like I’m kind of itching to do, but I’m just not recovering enough to keep up with that for long without just falling off the edge. When life settles down a bit, I can go a bit more wild 2) Vertical Diet starts today. Im just flat out missing meals, every week I have multiple meal preps go bad because I just didn’t have time to eat at work. I can carry a bag of protein powder in my pocket, and I always carry a water bottle. Not really doing this for body goals as much as the convenience factor, but it’s happening either way.
  • haven’t weighed myself, but down to 2 belt loops on my belt, which is as small as my waist has been, and I’m definitely at least 15lbs higher than I was last time I had a waist this small. Nice.
  • never do shrugs. We have a shrug machine, thought that they might help with some shoulder issues. Went pretty light, squeezed the hell out of these reps, never had a pure trap pump before, but it was gnarly lol.

Do you have Kelso’s Shrug Book? If not, can I get it for you?

Man I need to do more shrug varieties.

I do actually! Got it on kindle years ago, if memory serves I actually picked it up on your recommendation. Maybe it’s time I skim through it again.

Also, I do genuinely appreciate the offer.

Absolutely dude! I owe you a lot, and love watching us all grow. If you ever find your way toward Omaha (lots of Navy jobs this way), absolutely get in touch. I’ll treat you to some GOOD beef.

…that sounded better before I wrote it.

at least you didn’t say Pork

That’s the Carolinas…and they can have it!

Jokes aside, but are there state based differences in the US of what meats are popular and eaten ?

I moved to Aus from the UK and was surprised to find that pork was not very popular down here.
Lots more beef and lamb. Even things like sausages are mostly beef here, where in the UK pork sausages are the norm.

Ironically enough, my mothers side of the family actually all lives in Omaha or surrounding towns. If I ever visit them(which I should, but haven’t in too long), I will definitely reach out!

I also remember working out at Omaha Barbell las time I was there visiting. Forget the name of the guy who owns it, but he was a nice dude, and the gym was no joke.

Yes, but marginally. I’d say the “staple” foods are pretty similar throughout the country, but some states have “specialty” either meats or recipes that they are known for.

Example:
Chili is popular in the US, but some regions make it a bit different. New Mexico makes a lot of white bean chili with chicken, due to some Mexican cuisine influence in the region, whereas Texans make chili without beans because God doesn’t love them.
