Atlas13 Burning the Boats

Dude, you get more impressive every time I visit this log!

Nice work on that PR, BTW.

Okay, I feel a slight need to clarify very quickly lol.

I am by no means an Operator, boots on the ground, or anything close to impressive like that. When I was back in college, I did a couple screeners to kind of test my aptitude for those communities, and I ended up doing pretty well, but I blew my knee out my senior year and ended up getting a med DQ from anything that I was really interested in along those lines.

So I did get to do a few pretty sick training evolutions, flown out to do some cool stuff with some much cooler guys than myself, but at the end of the day I ended up going a different route. Don’t want to give off the impression I am doing anything along the lines of combat arms, especially given how poorly my fitness would reflect on that community. Much respect to all the ones who do, but it ain’t me lol.

Even so, my man—your work ethic is impressive. Keep on grinding!

Well said!

Just reading this and nodding in agreement, I ate it too. Oh and I am pretty sure @T3hPwnisher really hates it, that is why he uses it. LOL

Awesome progress man, keep it up. That range day sounds like a blast too, I’ve never gone through more than a few hundred rounds in a single go. Thousands is legit, haha.

Lol, the thousands was a bit much, but all In good fun. To be fair, probably about 2000 of that was straight .22LR , I don’t make enough to be dropping that on anything else. I also just loving shooting my little ruger, grew up learning to shoot with a 10/22, it holds a special place in my heart lol. With 4 guys, the cost wasn’t too terrible, and we’ve been planning it for a long time now so we figured we would make the most of it.

I dig it man, .22 is pure joy haha. A drop in kit from CMMG has been on my wish list for a while now.

Work for today:

Notes:

  • absolutely earned that deadlift PR. Feeling a little off on my warmups, weights were just moving slow. Hit the top set, had to stop to breath after only rep 4, so I knew it was going to be a tough set. Every rep felt slow, but every rep moved. Just kind of a ā€œoff day but my strength is there dammitā€ kind of PR.
  • Press and Pull-ups moved well, no complaints
  • going to see a chiropractor tomorrow because I won some thing at a festival last weekend that got me a free adjustment. Never done that before, honestly going partially out of curiosity lol.

Smashed the deadlift mate very nice work. Now you are just doing it to make me look weak. LOL

Your bench is still far beyond mine, and we all know that’s the only lift that counts lol

I thought curls was where the action was. LOL

Work for today:

Notes:

  • had about a half hour wait at an appointment yesterday, spent it diving into bench press technique. Came to the realization that my bench grip is a bit too narrow. So, tried wider today, hands at the rings. Honestly, it felt good, but I think I over corrected. 195 freaking flew, but I definitely lost my brace on my top set on the 8th rep and everything kind of fell apart. Stripped down to 135 and played with different grips, found a good width that’s in between the rings and where I normally hold. Feeling MUCH more chest when I do it this way, think I have been doing a purely triceps bench for too long.
  • that being said, I am starting to care about bench. My press and my deadlift are decent, which is definitely because they are the 2 lifts I have always cared the most about. I honestly haven’t given a damn about bench in a while, but that’s recently changed. Idk why, but I care about getting some big bench numbers again. Maybe because I see it going down as I drop weight and it annoys me.
  • that being said, dropping weight is still the main goal. It just has to be, I’m not at a good place yet. That being said, as soon as I get down to 200, I’m really going to start trying to up the calories and chase some numbers. Tired of cutting, I want to grow.
  • pull-ups went well, elbow feeling a bit better than it has in a while, think the straps and babying it is paying off.

I meant to comment when I first saw this, but it’s a radical transformation. You’re just killing this dude.

@simo74 trying weekly weigh ins instead of the daily I was doing, mainly due to schedule. Seeing the drop just hits a little harder when it’s a gauge of the past 7 days instead of just the past 1 lol.

@T3hPwnisher thanks boss, I appreciate it. Honestly, I think it’s come a bit easier for me than others because I’ve been an athlete for most of my life. Being relatively ā€œin shapeā€ is probably more of my baseline, so getting back to that really feels as if it’s what my body wants to do. The wife’s comments on my traps don’t hurt anything either lol

Traps are the REAL love handles if you’re doing things right, haha.

Work for today:

5 minutes cycling to warm up. Cold in the garage, early AM lift

Notes:

  • 155 moved well. Not a PR, but I’ve never pressed that while being this light, so I guess that’s win
  • deadlifts did not want to move today. Everything felt heavy. Did this without any food yet for the day, think that may have something to do with it. Still, they moved
  • Happy with Pull-ups. Really want to work up to 45x5 on weighted.

Work for today:

Notes:

  • happy with the SSB PR, 10lbs up from last month and it moved well. Definitely doing some good morning squats, but I’m alright with that on the SSB. I feel like the SSB doesn’t train the ā€œsquatā€ as much as it trains ā€œstand the f&$@ up with a heavy weight trying to crush youā€ lol
  • Pull-ups went well. Went slower and controlled on the reps, still hit 10. 11 will fall soon.
  • bench just felt all sorts of wrong, but also moved well. Not gonna look to deep into that.
