My dad and I been to the UK a couple of times and he (and I ) have been pleasantly surprised. The US is much worse with its interpretation
when we were in Bovington, there was a tiny takeaway that made not exactly authentic, but apparently really good stuff according to him. The chef was definitely a first generation immigrant and had amazing wok technique.
No idea what he was doing in somewhere like Bovington
I don’t want to brag, but here in the UK we have the best food around simply because of the diverse pockets of cultures you get. Near me i have proper Indian food (in Birmingham and Leicester) that is world class, massive Chinese quarter in Birmingham and other cities which is traditional and fantastic, we’ve got tons of local European (like Italian/ French restaurants) run my natives who produce traditional and fantastic food. Then you’ve got gastro pubs scattered around the countryside.

You’ve clearly missed the crown jewel of British cuisine - Greggs.
I can’t stand Greggs. My Mrs and kids love it but there is nothing i can get in there with around 50g + pf protein that’s not covered in terrible calories or is poor quality. I’d rather get a KFC if I’m out.

Greggs do mainly pastry items, so sausage rolls, stake bakes etc. or terrible pre made sandwiches.
For me, i can get KFC with gravy, take off the chicken skin (don’t order chips) and its quite a good meal for protein if i’m out and stuck.
Now I am Jealous. its definitely hit or miss here where I live and travel for work.
Maybe your KFC and my KFC do things differently. My KFC mainly gives digestive distress. Lol. Fair about the protein though.
I feel people are missing the boat on @atlas13 observation here. To say “British Cuisine is excellent: we have such diverse food from other cultures” is to admit that your OWN culture’s food is lacking.
I lived in North Dakota for a while. While I was there, I could obtain Mexican food, Thai food, Italian food, Asian cuisine, etc. Yes, THAT stuff was yummy.
Want to know what North Dakotans (referred to there as “NoDaks”) eat? Well done steaks with no seasoning, because pepper was considered “too spicy”. And those that had Scandinavian heritage would sometimes eat lutefisk.
Which is to say, there is good FOOD in North Dakota, but North Dakota CUISINE sucks.

- home sweet home.
- Hit some more bodyweight stuff and some runs last week, but no gym. No easy access, and honestly work had me putting in some nutty hours. Had a blast though.
- Drinking rum on the HMS Victory with the Officer of the Day will be a core memory. Lots of other great times were had. Amazing networking opportunities, made some great friends, and learned a lot. I’ve always kind of thrived in social settings. Not necessarily an extrovert, but I do well working a crowd, and always leave with some great stories. Favorite of this trip had to involve me fireman carrying a belligerently drunk Australian O6 a good 1.5 miles back to the hotel. He was not a small man. I was not a sober man. This was one of the harder physical things I’ve done in a long time lol.
- also shut down the bars at 0200 every day for 7 days straight, all while having to get up at 0600 for work. Do I regret it? Not at all. Amazing times with amazing people. Am I hurting? Oh yeah.
- On a kind of related note, I’m starting a cut. A strict cut. The last 5 months or so has been me trying to play around with cutting without cutting. Trying to eat intuitively, give myself some flexibility, avoid scheduled weigh ins, and use conditioning goals to drive weight loss. And after 5 months of that? I weigh almost exactly the same as when I started. Now, I am stronger. And leaner. And my endurance is improved. Essentially I’m in the best shape I’ve been in since college rugby, and I feel great. But I’m still heavier than I’d like to be, even if I’m meeting my other goals, and for general health reasons if nothing else, I am going to cut.
- Fortunately, I am great at cutting. Don’t enjoy it, but Ik how to do it, so that’s that. Plan is an AGGRESSIVE cut the next 7 weeks until my wedding, and then depending on weight either keeping the gas on, or going to a more moderate cut up until Kilimanjaro. End goal for me is 210. It’s an arbitrary weight I’m just picking, and then planning to never go over once I’m under it. (Which means future cut and bulk cycles would have me cutting down lower so I could bulk to 210)
- Kind of on that note, I’m pretty pleased with physique rn. I got a LOT of comments this last week. Americans may be fatter than the rest of the world, but we also have more jacked guys lol. Compared to most of the UK, I was freaking yoked, and had a lot of people walk up to me unprompted to comment on it. (To include a group of like 6 18 year olds who walked up to me in a club, which totally threw me off because what do you mean 18 year olds can go to clubs? I straight up asked one flirty teenage girl if her mother knew she was out rn lol. She was not happy) also had a weird mirror setup in the hotel that let me see myself from behind, which made me realize my backs a lot more developed than I realized, which was a pretty nice little discovery.
- Okay, onto today’s actual workout.
- Really loving overhead Pin press. Was going for a heavy set of 3, but undershot the weight so just kept at it on reps.
- I’m digging the more controlled reps for hypertrophy work. Really smokes me, get some great pumps, but the joints feel a bit happier with me.
- The Mrs is really starting to show some progress, her arms and shoulders especially, and she’s definitely pretty pumped about that.
