Atlas13 Burning the Boats

you must be looking at old lifts. My recent lifts are probably around 205 for 5 or so. So we are neck and neck lol. But anyway I am trying to focus down my OHP and Deadlift anyways. I want to do a strongman competition sometime in the near future (probably going to take a few years though to get up to par) and they are terribly pathetic.

Hat trick on comeback pr’s!

Cards on the table, was working my way through your log haha. Saw 225x9 on bench a while back, had that in my head when I replied. Still, seems we are about neck and neck, good to have someone similar to push off of

Set up looks good man, if you are interested in DB’s I’d recommend a plate loaded pair got some earlier this year and are very handy, just need some clips for them.

Kb swing: 53x11, 53x11, 53x11
Lunge: 8, 8, 8

Conditioning:
Mowed the lawn: 50 minutes

Notes:

  • I am noticing an odd trend. If I go into a workout feeling like hell, I always hit great numbers. Was feeling all sorts of off going into this, queasy, tired, just bad all around, and then hit PRs.
  • knew from the first deadlift working set I was going to PR. The weight just flew, felt like I was doing speed work. I still felt awful, but bar momentum does not lie. After hitting 440, I thought about a 450 attempt, but settled for the little win at 445.
  • front squats happened, nothing exciting
  • I began to overheat during my 3rd giant set. Thermometer said 103 in my garage, with damn near 100% humidity, and I went into this without having anything to drink at work today since I forgot my water bottle so…yeah, dumb move on my part. Got really, really dizzy on my first set of lunges, nearly fell over, had to stop for a second. Thought about just calling the workout after that but felt like a wimp, so I grabbed some ice packs from inside and spent my rest periods lying on the ground In front of my fan with ice packs on my forehead, stomach, and armpits. Dumb, but it worked, managed to finish up the workout with a little added rest time between sets. Note to self; hydrate.
-time to find some neighborhood kid to mow my lawn. F$@& that after deadlifts

Edit: forgot to mention two things. Belt loop 7, was actually able to make it to 8, but it didn’t feel right, so not giving it to myself yet. Weight: 265.4

Man idk how hot it was in the garage but it was 107 heat index outside and inside had no air so not fun lol. Right there with you. I was pouring sweat.

It’s brutal, right? I mean, I like to sweat, makes me feel like I’m working hard, but at some point it’s just ridiculous. Feel like I just got out of a pool before I even start working haha

Exactly this 100%.

Nah, when you get out of a pool you feel cool and refreshed…

While not a constant, I’ve had far more seriously impressive days in the gym when I was run down, tired, and wanted to be anywhere else but the gym. I’ve also had plenty of absolutely horrible days in the gym when I walked in feeling unstoppable.

The human body is such a weird creature.

Work for today:

Giant set 1:
Banded pull-ups: rbx6, 6, 5, 4, 3
Press: 45x10, 95x3, 120x5, 135x5, 145x5 (comeback PR), 135x5, 135x5
Rear delt raise: 15x8, 15x8, 15x8, 15x8, 15x8

Giant set 2:
Axle row: 115x10, 115x10, 115x9

Band pull apart: rx15, 15, 15

Giant set 3:
Axle curl: 45x13, 45x13, 45x12
Lat raise: 15x10, 15x10, 15x10
Banded pushdown: rbx15, 15, 15

Conditioning:
15 min peloton class

Notes:
-right trap has been hurting since my top set of deads yesterday. Felt weird on my press, but the weight moved, so doesn’t really matter.
-honestly, while I’m happy with my PR, I am more happy with the rest of my working weights. 4 sets at or above 135lbs on press, last week that was only 2. The gains are coming fast right now, and I am really enjoying it

  • another 100+ degree day in the garage, sweat city
  • I am pretty dang happy with bench, only because I am going into it dead. Just 6 weeks ago I wasn’t struggling with 145 for 10 as an accessory on press day. Now, I can do 155 for 10 while bleeding sweat and still catching my breath from the last exercise in the giant set. Been rushing my rest periods, hurrying my setups, and just generally disrespecting the weight, and dammit it’s working

Also, I do not know why when I do notes, sometimes it comes out in the nice pretty bullet points, and sometimes it comes out with the dashes. Nor am I willing to do any effort into making it pretty. Sorry for any OCD readers who I am slowly driving mad

Man now you’re repping my max in the press. Gotta get stronger here for sure. Great job!

Thanks man! Press has always been my strongest list. Well, not entirely, but for awhile anyway. Tore my rotator cuff in high school, doc said I’d never be able to wrestle again. Wrestling coach told me to get my shoulders strong AF in order to make up for the weak rotator cuff. Enter 2 years of focusing on press more than any other lift, ended up making pretty good gains, and now my overhead strength is always a bit disproportionately strong compared to my other lifts.

(Some may say my other lifts are disproportionately low, but I prefer to view my shoulders as freakish strong lol)

Lol good way to look at it. Glass half full kind of thing. Press is just the opposite for me being my worst. Even when I could rep 225 for 12 on the bench I could only Press like 135 for 5.

Loving all the comeback PR’s on here. There is something really satisfying knowing someone is progressing fast toward and better version of them selves. Keep crushing it mate.

See, I can’t press 225 for even 5 right now, but still 145x5 press is in the books for me. Shit like that is why I always am skeptical about ā€œstrength standardsā€ by body weight. Some folks are just better at certain lifts

Thanks man, I’m loving it too haha. Still have a long way to go until I’m breaking any real all time PRs, but the distance is getting smaller by the day.

(Also, I flat out don’t remember a ton of my PRs… so at some point I’m just gonna have to pretend it’s new haha)

So quick question. I noticed you do Trap bar dealifts instead of regular deadlifts. How do you like those compared to regular deadlifts ?
