Let me explain some of the methods of the cult of christianity:
1: Get to kids as young as possible. They’ll see you as an authority figure (or, if you’re their parent, you will be one) and lack the congitive ability to discern plausible facts from nonsense fiction. They will believe whatever you tell them and spend their whole lives believing and spreading it.
2: Threaten nonbelievers with eternal punishment when they die. Nobody knows what happens when you die, and this scares most people - USE THIS FEAR TO YOUR ADVANTAGE. Tell them YOU do know what happens, and unless they agree with you and spread your religion, it’ll be something bad.
3: Meanwhile, tell them that YOU will get eternal reward when you die, and they can too, if they join your cult.
4: In fact, tell them that your magic book not only reveals what happens when you die, but answers many other questions no one has ever had a final answer for, such as “Why are we here?” and “Do my life and my actions really matter?” Its VERY IMPORTANT that you NEVER admit you could be wrong about ANYTHING, EVER. NEVER EVER, I cannot stress this enough. You MUST project the air of an absolute authority with “joy and peace” in your knowledge. If you shout the exact same thing for 50 years and the nonbeliever goes through periods of doubt, it PROVES you are right and he is wrong.
5: Speaking of “joy and peace”, tell the nonbeliever that your life is better than his because you are happier, thanks to your inerrant book of facts.
6: Claim your bible to be inerrant and claim you believe this because the bible says so. Is that circular, tautological reasoning? Why, you’d burn in hell just for asking that!
I could go on but I’m just bored.
Sounds like someone’s a little scared. And, here is a question, what is wrong with being in a cult?
I’ll give you a clue, you’re in a cult as well. The cult of atheism, or agnosticism, or whatever. The cult of America, or UK, or where ever you are from. The word cult merely describes which culture you belong to. Halo has a cult, MW2 has a cult. T-Nation has a cult.
The more you speak the less you seem to know. And, tell me skeptic why do you deny the Church’s Authority? Do you think that two thousand years of thinking they have not got it right? If so, how do you purpose that you have got it right in this short of a life span?
If Christianity was true, you wouldnt need to accuse me of being scared. Then again, if it was true you wouldnt need to make up stories about eternal torment for not agreeing with you.

You think thats going to stop him from redefining it at will?
Noticed a “stations of the cross” thing today. Story where Jesus carries the cross and falls three times.
Remember, this is the sonself of GOD, the omnipotent. He could make blind men see, raise men from the dead, come back from the dead himself, magically change water into wine, walk on water …
but carry a chunk of wood? Too fucking difficult. Can not handle.

Hohoho.
Extending the above - I just don’t get the concept of a sacrifice when … well, when it doesn’t actually hurt/kill you since you are the son of god.
Sacrifice implies a loss of some sort. Where was god’s loss in all this? There wasn’t.

Jesus Christ was both man and God (as he was born of a woman). Therefore, he felt pain, stress and all sorts of emotions. He even cried when he heard his friend Lazarus was dead - And he knew he could bring him back!
Some get this whole thing and some don’t so here’s what you could do:
Have a few of your good friends beat you relentlessly for a few days, spit on you, and insult you and then place a crown of thorns on your head. Make sure you ask them to shove that crown down nice and hard if you’re still able to talk. Then have them nail your hands and feet to a cross and you can hang there for a few hours. But unlike Christ, just before you die have them take you down. Then when you are all healed up, which will take quite a while, post back about your experience.
And keep in mind this was God doing this for us, so that through our belief in this great sacrifice we can live eternally in heaven. Now I know you guys don’t believe any of this but try to scrape up a modicum of tolerance for those of us who do.

Yes, I do recognize that, but you’re not seeing it from my angle. Religion isn’t limited to deities, or formal religious groups. When there is an apparition, or a someone dies the Catholic Church sees if there is a cult around that apparition or person in part to determine if it is an apparition or if the person is a saint, at least canonically.

Yes, and Peter walked on water, Prophets did miracles. Jesus was fully human, he has the will of God and is fully God, but he also had the body of a man, he had the pains of man. If he didn’t, then the whole incarnation would have been useless.
As well, Jesus didn’t just get the cross and was expected to carry it, he was beat, then told to carry the cross. You ever go to Calvary, walk the path of Jesus, it’s not exactly short.

As interesting as that is…
The point is that you can’t call atheism a cult. It’s pretty much the opposite of a cult.

Hohoho.
Extending the above - I just don’t get the concept of a sacrifice when … well, when it doesn’t actually hurt/kill you since you are the son of god.
Sacrifice implies a loss of some sort. Where was god’s loss in all this? There wasn’t.
Let me explain, I understand you’re a Muslim. So this may be a little difficult for you to understand.
God loves humans, he loves his creation. The Father begot his only Son. Jesus was the Father’s Son. God did this, made himself fully human, to love his creation more, even though that is kind of hard to understand. As, before the Son became fully man, man would always be away from our Father.
The Father sent His son, when God knew he would be killed, so that we could be with the Father. He sent His son to feel the struggle of man, to feel the pain of man, to be killed by his own creation, to be a pascal sacrifice. God’s flesh was crucified, His flesh was killed, he felt what it was like to be killed.
To say that God didn’t sacrifice anything is to deny the humanity of Jesus. If Jesus was not a man, then he didn’t sacrifice anything, true. But, Jesus was fully man, so just like any other man that dies for another is a sacrifice, God sacrificed.

Don’t address posts when they are clearly proven wrong.
Make theological assumptions.
You’re abusive to Christians, because Christ didn’t die for your sins? Well, theologically he did. Just because you deny that, doesn’t make it so. What does admitting things when you don’t know have to do with good people.
Yes, I am sure I’ll stick with the Christians, your self-righteousness is too much for me.

Exactly what I’ve been asking in this thread. When you rely on faith instead of evidence, you have no valid reason for thinking you got it right, which is why there are so many deep disagreements in faith based religions.
