Destructive devices are not the same as firearms. A cannon is a destructive device…stop this already.
If you read this entire thread you will see other posts by me that explain that I have some experience with human violence. I have also fought full contact and NHB, so I have some experience on the empty hand side. I dont care how much of a badass you are, firearms are the trump card. To say otherwise is goddamn silliness.
Afghanistan and Viet Nam are two examples of an armed and determined populace resisting a vastly superior military power. Im not worried much about the American military…we have proven ourselves to be the good guys. I do worry about the future of the world with North Korea and red China buzzing around. Do you doubt they would love to invade the US? Is it going to happen next week? No. Could it happen 50 years from now? Who knows. Ive already mentioned Japan’s reluctance to invade California because of the armed populace.
Now…just because I said that I trust the core of America, do you think this means I apply such blanket trust to everyone in my daily life? The exceptions prove the rule, but violent and heartless criminals are out there…Ive encountered a few. Your safety was and is secured by good men who take up arms to defend you, but there does come a point of self-reliance.
Earlier, RSU spoke of being mugged at knifepoint. He still does not carry a firearm(if he is legally able?) Now if he does so because he is a true humanitarian and would not want to harm someone else, even an attacker, I respect that. However, I am not that kind of person…perhaps I have not evolved to that point. I believe in peace through strength. I will help you if you need help, stranger or not. But if you try to hurt me, or my family, or innocents in my presence, I will try to stop you, even if the situation neccessitates me killing you. I also wish to have the best tools at my disposal to defend myself and dont think a pinhead politician should dictate this to me when over two centuries of American history says otherwise.
We are from different sides of the aisle I guess and don’t see how we can reach any real middle ground on this.
