Assange is free

But still continued w/ slavery and the oppression of women?

That varies by belief system.

If what was allowed? If murder were legal, it wouldn’t be called murder.

Why not?

But would I be right?

So absolutes are not valid because people don’t believe in them or know about them? Were there not mathematical equations, unknown to man, but still true regardless?

Ahhh no. No matter when someone is brought up, slavery is ALWAYS wrong. So slavery is okay as long as a person is brought up during a time when it was thought to be okay?

Maybe so, but I would still be wrong. My belief that it is okay wouldn’t matter. It is NOT relative. Slavery, holding people against there will and preventing them from living life with freedoms is wrong no matter what time period they were born in. Unsure if I can find another way to say it.

Because it is wrong.

Call it what you like the net effect is still the same-a life has been extinguished. Call it killing w/o punishment.

Yes it can. But which is right? Both?

In terms of morality it does indeed matter. Morality is just the collective set of what of people agree is the acceptable and necessary part of the social contract.

Imagine a world where slavery is practiced all over. Nobody ever knew/thought/felt it was ā€œwrongā€. In that world it would absolutely not be wrong, because the entire collective has agreed upon the standard that it is a just/right practice.
If none of humanity believes it is wrong, there would never be the opposite judgement made.

Because you can’t see the point everyone here is trying to make. Like usual.

Could very well be neither. The problem with a Judeo-Christian worldview (which you appear to hold) is that everything eventually boils down to a binary. The universe is way more complicated than that.

Louis C.K. seems to be arguing for absolutes when talking about Auschwitz.

Oh really, a Christian apologist believes in absolute morality? Color me surprised…lol

Again, the intersection of the sets of things which almost every culture agrees is wrong is fairly large. That does not mean there is an absolute set.

When measured against absolutes, it does not.

No. It is wrong Independent of the majority opinion.

More projection as it is YOU that can’t see the point. You argue for majority opinion as the guide for morality. I argue that morality lies above and beyond majority opinion.

Could very well be one or the other. Either/Or

It’s a human pushing an absolute construct onto it based on their own beliefs…

How would anyone know this in that world?

Because you take a purely binary approach to the world. If anything, things like quantum entanglement shows us the universe is much more than binary.
It’s either absolutely right or absolutely wrong which takes much of the humanity out the whole damn thing.

Tell me why knowing OR not knowing cancels out absolutes?

In regards to morality, I take the position of absolutes NOT relativism.

Because in that world slavery would absolutely be moral. Making morality not absolute because it is not universal.

Because of your upbringing and worldview…

Take a look into the Buddhist philosophy of dependent origination and ponder that for a while.

Is it really?

Or a typical day in Chicago.

It depends on who holds the gun and who holds the shovel.

This is the utopian thought process of dictators. You always bring up oppression but the most oppressive human invention is ideology.

shovel

Especially absolute ideologies.

We both know he’s intellectually challenged. A retard, if you will
But I keep wondering whether God might have at some point exclaimed ā€œThou shall TRY not to make fun of the fuckin’ retardedā€.

Then again, maybe He reads these forums and is like "Jesus fucking Christ, this Castoli guy is such an insuferable dumbass, I’m sending him straight to Hell. He can be one of the virgins for the terrorists he loves so much’'.

In all seriousness though, it seems to me that both you and cyclonengineer are trying to hold his hand and explain things in a rational way (however futile that task might be) rather than having a laugh.

Every comedian needs a straight man.

Wrong again. Slavery is NEVER moral.

Because it is right.

Okay, watch a debate with heavyweights of the opposing views and then tell me what you think. Will look at the Buddhist subject. of dependent origination.

You believe it is right…as do most people. You can’t say it’s a universal absolute thing though because you and others are measuring it against the set of standards most have collectively agreed is right.

However, even the God you presumably follow (judging by your responses) repeatedly supported both genocide and slavery.

Have read multiple books on the topic. The absolutist camp is always the ones with the Judeo-Christian type limited worldview.

Says who?
