â??Itâ??s not that recording any conversation is illegal without consent. Itâ??s that recording a private conversation is illegal without consent,â?? he said. â??So then the question is, â??Are the words of a police officer spoken on duty, in uniform, in public a â??private conversation.â?? And every court that has ever considered that question has said that they are not.â??

I highly doubt the guy’ll get convicted but it shouldn’t even be in court to begin with.
Someone made a point that these cops have dash cams that record everything including sound - what’s stopping us from suing them for the same wiretap laws? Especially if they pull you over for no reason?
I was pulled over in South Carolina with a buddy of mine (who happened to be black) and pulled out of my car and questioned as to who we were … Told him we were in the Air Force and they let us go on our merry way … didn’t give us a reason as to why we were pulled over … I was pissed, my buddy was confused as to why I was pissed. I told him what they did was illegal and he was like “It is? They used to do that to me all the time back home.”

You get the Nanny you vote for.
In this case, your Nanny has a gun and is willing to use it on you. Some cities have blocks of ‘crime watch’ cameras-- waiting for you to illegally sneeze, but you can’t video tape Nanny giving you a traffic ticket.
Just remember this every time you vote “D” and “R”.
Go ahead, repeat the mantra— “Gov’t is here to protect me”.

I’ve said many times before that we fucked ourselves…and that Patriot Act was simply a nail in the coffin.
Once you give local government the right to basically act like legal babysitters for the entire city, you are fucked.
I mean, I’m military and cops used to respect that a little…but not now.
Damn right they don’t, I’m still upset over the cop that shot that unarmed air force police officer. They had him on video shooting this kid at point blank range while the kid is unarmed and on the floor telling the cop that he is a military cop and he’s on his side. But I think he got suspended with pay for like a year then the charges were dismissed so I’m sure that officer learned his lesson. The shit they get away with is sickening.

Dude, I was driving around Westheimer at 2am. I seriously doubt I would have been pulled over if I wasn’t black. Yeah, we kind of get used to shit like that after a while.
Most cops are descent enough guys who want to do a good job and go home at the end of the shift. Unfortunately the minority of power tripped asshats with guns and badges give the rest a bad name. In retrospect, every agency, business, organization, has that problem. Not all dentists are sadistic, pain causing vultures. Go to a bad one and you assume they are.
The biggest problem I see with most guys in law enforcement is a lack of knowledge of what the law actually says. I work in the juvenile Justice system, have for 13 yrs and I am constantly amazed by the ignorance of many officers over what should be matters of basic law and processing. The legality of videoing is a prime example. It’s probably going to vary state to state, and Prof X, I do believe I will research Texas this afternoon and post the answer.

I think it is bullshit. I was pulled over two weeks ago. The crime? Driving at night at 2am. This was apparently a “suspicious time of night” for me to be out…so the cop comes at me with his hand on his gun to pull me over.
Cops in general have abused any power they’ve been given to the point that I have little sympathy here. I am still against all of these cops driving around Houston in UNMARKED police cars that have no indication visible that they are even cops when they go to flash their lights at people. That should be against the law.
I keep a video camera on me and in some of these situations, video is the only thing keeping you from being screwed by some of those guys.
Wait what do you plan on doing with that camera? Unless you have that thing running 24/7 I doubt you’d have enough time to set it up.

Yes, the Patriot that is still in full force and renewed with the current “Administration of Change”. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
What’s next? Oh, what’s next is already here. You’re being monitored like you wouldn’t believe, right down to opening a new bank account— you know, for your own safety.
I know people who simply would not have stopped for him…and should they go to jail for running from an UNMARKED OUT OF UNIFORM COP WITH A DRAWN GUN?
Here’s what concerns me- How should a person respond when confronted in traffic by someone who is armed and aggressive? I know more than enough people, myself included, that would say that if this is how it’s going down, then I’m going to make damn sure it goes my way.

I’ll tell you right now, unless Under Armour has its own police force, if I was on my bike, I would not have stopped for this jackass. I guess this would have been a national event by the end of the day with me.

I have 2 or 3 different cameras. One I keep in my bag when on my bike and it takes all of a few seconds to get it out.
Think about it though, if this guy didn’t have a camera on him, this would not be4 getting the publicity that it is…which is why cops hate cameras on civilians…because NOW they get watched as well.

How do the cops react X when they see Dr on your Drivers License?

Agreed. The fact that he pulled a gun and not a badge is unforgivable. What if the biker was CCing? Whose fault would it had been if the biker shot the policeman dead? Even then, if he had flashed a badge, anyone can have a fake badge. It’s a little harder to fake a detailed police cruiser complete with uniform.

Wow. I just watched this video. That was disturbing. The cop told him to get up and then shot him. He should be in jail.
