The guy who created the pirate bay (Peter Sunde) is making an app called Hemlis (Meaning secret in Swedish). Apparently it allows 100% private communication through encrypted code. Could become very popular in light of the whole Edward Snowden thing.

Funny, in every country I’ve ever even to, I’ve met a good number of Kiwi expats. They all tell me the same thing: “yeh, New Zealand’s beautiful and all, but it’s boring as shit!”
One bloke said to me, “you’ve 'eard that there are three times as many sheep in New Zealand as there are people, right? Know why that’s so? 'Cos the sheep can’t get passports.”
Seriously, though, I escaped back in the nineties, at the beginning of the reign of George I, and returned at the end of the reign of George II, nearly two decades later. I did not find the place to have improved much in my absence. Perhaps it’s time for another move.

You’d probably move back to Japan? TBH, I’d like to move to Finland or Norway.

If I could find a job outside of the US that would hire me 100% then sure. If I knew spanish, I’d get the fuck out of dodge and go to Bolivia or Paraguay. Atleast I wouldnt have to pay back my student loans either.
My apologies if I’m not getting the context here. I read the opening post about a week ago and just now skipped to the last page here, so I’m not up on the thread.
This post sounds like you basically want to steal your education from the US. Whatever your complaints are with the US, I don’t think stealing is justifiable.

Varq, would you mind giving us the pluses and minuses of Japan vs the USA. People complain about this country a lot, and I have complaints of my own, but from what I see there are few, if any, better options. I think this is the best country in the world for opportunity. If someone has drive and ambition this is the place to be. Am I wrong?

Whats wrong with Finland? I wouldn’t mind moving to any Scandinavian country actually, lol. I should have just said that.
On Edge, I don’t know how much foreign travel you’ve done, and I’d hate to lump you into a general statement, but it has been my observation that the people who claim that America is the greatest country with the greatest opportunities are typically the ones who have never lived outside of its borders. Rather like a person claiming that his religion is the only true religion without ever learning anything firsthand about another religion, or claiming that Budweiser is the best beer ever, never having tasted anything else.
I don’t deny that the United States is a decent place to raise a family, or start a business. Our taxes aren’t as punitive as they are in other countries with an equivalent standard of living, and our laws are not as arbitrary, nor our law enforcement agencies as brutal, as a number of countries throughout the world. Our crime rates aren’t nearly as bad as they are in a few countries, and by and large the people of the United States are above-average in literacy and education among the peoples of the world.
I don’t think America is the be-all or end-all, and I don’t think Japan is, either. Here’s something I wrote in response to a similar question from Headhunter several years back.
Like everything, it’s a tradeoff.
In America, I have more freedom to complain.
In Japan, I have less to complain about.
In America, I have the freedom to own a gun.
In Japan, I have never felt the need to own a gun.
In America we have lots of government services, and high taxes.
In Japan we have fewer government services, and lower taxes.
In America, I have constitutional rights that protect me from government abuse.
In Japan, I have a government that is too ineffective to commit much abuse.
In America, we are kept “safe” by voluminous laws, millions of policemen, and tens of millions of lawyers.
In Japan, people generally get along, lawsuits are practically unheard of, and you can go all day without seeing a cop.
In America, we have the world’s most powerful military, which we need because we have lots of enemies.
In Japan, they have the world’s fifth-most powerful military, but nobody realizes it because it’s hardly ever used.
In America, it is cheap and easy to own and operate a motor vehicle.
In Japan, only good drivers are licensed, and only vehicles in excellent condition are allowed on the road.
In America, food is cheap, and medical care is expensive.
In Japan, food is expensive, and medical care is cheap.
In Japan, I don’t have the right to vote.
In America I do, but all of the candidates suck.
In America, I get free shipment for Biotest products.
In Japan, I don’t.
So I guess America is better.
Why would I want to leave? Well, I won’t copy-paste it here, but my comment on this old thread kind of sums it up:

I posed the question as someone who has never been out of the country wishing to be enlightened. My observation that America is one of the best countries to live in, especially for opportunity, is simply an observation and not a claim of fact. I’m curious about the perspectives of people who have lived here and in other countries. Thanks for answering.
I’d like to hear from others as well.

Nothing wrong with Finland per say… but comparatively, if you went to Soumi(Finland) over Sweden(fine Denmark too, actually even more so than Sweden because it has less immigrants)… boy… did you fuck up.
Go to Sweden, Malmo or Stockholm for one or two days, and come back to this thread and tell me if you ever want to leave(yes i’m reasoning strictly using my ah-ha).
