I used to play at Absolute Poker until the law changed and it got to hard to get money in and out. Haven’t played online since. Only reason I played there was a friend played there and talked me into it. Haven’t played online since. I miss playing, but don’t miss the lighter wallet.
Pokerstars and Full tilt poker are the two most popular sites to play at, with ultimate bet and absolute poker being the next two largest but avoided by alot of players due to cheating scandals at the two sites.
The most popular game is easily no-limit holdem, pot limit omaha and the limit games that make up horse being fairly popular as well
theres usually no cost to deposit money or withdrawal it actually usually theres bonuses to entice new players, but sites make money off of whats called the rake where the site takes a certain % of each pot or entry fee in a tournament.
If you’re interested in playing I would suggest taking a visit to a forum such as two plus two to get some basic strategy and money management tips.
pokerstars
I used to play pokerstars in high school in any class with computers. It drived teachers crazy

I prefer any of those sites listed then Pokerstars Because 1 thing and 1 thing only RAKEBACK. Rakeback is a way to get back a percentage of the “rake”(money the pokersite gets from each hand) usually it is about 30%. If you dont have a account on any of the pokersites your gold. go to http://www.rakeback.com. And follow the instructions on it.
Pokerstars has rakeback but its gained through its VIPP program which it can take a awefully long time to get unless your a hardcore grinder.
Sure getting money out might be harder on the 3 poker sites but the rakeback more then makes up for it.

No. Unless you count play money but srsly wtf you doing play poker with play money…

The cost is how much money you want to deposit. Poker stars has a 10 dollar minimum. Absolute i think has 25 dollars same with UB(Ultimate Bet).
There can be cost associated with your withdrawal when you decide to do it so i suggest reading the pokersites of the poker rooms i listed above and seeing which withdrawal best suites you.
I stick mostly to live play, but I play a little $1-$2 8-game at Pokerstars from time to time, maybe a tourney if I’m in the mood. If you want to make a profit playing online I would avoid PS and Full Tilt, and rather play at places that have sport betting, roulette and other games. There are a lot more fish there that jump into poker games with no idea how to play, making it easier to turn a profit.
If you aren’t all that serious about it, then play at PS or FTP, because there is always a bunch of games just about to start. On the smaller sites there is a lot less action.

Full Tilt just had it’s own cheating scandal recently. Not on the same scale as Ultimate Bet, but cheating nonetheless.
I can imagine how cheating online might happen, using multiple computers, but do you guys have more details on the story?

In the Ultimate Bet scandal, they had special access to see other players’ hole cards.

If i recall the cheaters employees correct?
And honestly so many people play on those sites the odds of being matched up with one of them is extremely low it shouldn’t be a deciding factor IMO in which poker site you play on.
at ultimate bet and absolute poker there was a user who’s account could see everyone’s hole cards apparently some engineer who helped set up software, honestly you have don’t have to worry about running into that online since such players would always try to play the highest stakes they think they can get away with. The reason some people avoid the site is more of a principle thing since they don’t like the way the two sites dealt with the scandals. To my knowledge the sites have payed back most of the money that was cheated from their players though so they didn’t blow off the situation entirely.
Not sure what you’re referring to with full tilt having a smaller scale scandal unless you’re talking about Sbrugby multi account which is kinda different.
The only type of cheating you may encounter online are colluders (which you’ll also see live) and multi accounters. People who collude sit at a table with atleast one other person they know and share information about their hands and setup betting patterns to get more money out of the other players. Such as when one has a good hand they both stay in the hand as long as there is a third person and continually raise as to get the most out of the third guy. Most schemes are more subtle than that but sites also keep a look out for people who consistently play together to watch for such patterns.
Multi-accounters are people who have multiple account, which is against the TOS, and either enter tournaments multiple times or use it to conceal their identity against players who know them.
Definately consider FT, UB, and AP for their rakeback it may not look like much at first but it does save you alot of money and you can usually only get it as a signup bonus when you start your account.

The sign-up bonuses IMO are redonkulous. You have to play A SHIT LOAD to unlock the bonus its not worth it unless you actually are a grinder. So don’t deposit 600 dollars because when you unlock the bonus you get another 600 in reality if you dont play hardcore you wont unlock it and besides it only unlocks it in increments which isnt as cool as unlocking 600 all at once and having your Bankroll increase by 600 all at once lol
