I love the painted power racks on elitefts.com. was wondering if anyone here has painted their racls or equipment? I would love to paint the power rack a bright red before assembling it. also wonder how good it would look with jus a glossy spray paint job?

You’ll have to sand the rack a little bit beforehand so the paint will stick. With the white base paint and a little sanding, glossy red would look cool.

We had a thread about this.
do u think sanding the rack ould be necessary? I think red gloss spray paint would stick just fine. but I could be wrong. curious what others think?
No, it would flake. You have to break the surface of the previous paint to get good adhesion.
I once saw a stripper cover her rack with hot wax. That was cool.

Agreed, gloss doesn’t stick to gloss. Use an orbital sander (borrow one if you don’t have one), and knock off the sheen. Spray painting will be a pain in the ass.
You’d be better off getting a small roller, it will take much less time and the finish will be uniform. Spray paint always sounds like a good idea, but it’s messy and never comes out even, and you’ll use a ton of it.

Great idea ^^
you think if I paint it on with a roller and brush it’ll look better then spray painting it on? won’t u c streaks or roller marks or look uneven? and do they sell red gloss paint by the gal?

The only spots you would need to brush are the inside corners, where the roller won’t reach, and do that before you begin to roll. Get a small roller, something like 2-3" wide, with the smallest knap you can find, or better yet, get a foam roller. There shouldn’t be any streaking if you take your time and do it right, in fact it will look more uniform than spraying it with a can.
And yes, they definitely sell any color paint in any finish you want by the gallon. Just spend the extra couple of bucks and get a good brand name paint. Stay away from the Home Depot/Lowe’s generic stuff. Find a paint store and tell them what you are planning to do and they should be able to set you up with what you need. You can buy pre-mixed colors or have them mix up a gallon in any color you want. You could probably get away with just buying a quart of paint, but I’d check with them first.
