Anyone go to school at UNT? Or live in the dallas/denton area?
I might end up here for graduate school, and wanted some opinions or observations about the school and surrounding area.
Thanks.

I grew up and went to highschool in Dallas, it’s actually a really good city to live in. lots of malls, restaurants, good doctors, nice neighborhoods, etc. However, i have and have had friends who went to UNT, so i’d make the 45 min drive with some friends for a “good” party in Denton occasionally. long story short, Denton is the 2nd shittiest town in Texas besides Lubbock.
Treat it with far more precaution than the plauge (if your medieval) or AIDS (if your Ryan in Thailand)

You have evidently never been to Midland, Odessa, El Paso, Abilene, or any other Texas towns.
Not to say Lubbock isn’t shitty - there’s just no way it’s #2.

Denton is the 2nd shittiest town in Texas? Denton?
Either you’ve only been to Denton, Dallas, and Lubbock, or you’re a spoiled rich kid from Highland Park that just doesn’t know any better.
There is no way Denton is the 2nd shittiest. There are over 30,000 students attending school there…it can’t be THAT bad. Have you been to Lubbock?
Denton didn’t seem too bad when I was there, but I’m not from the area. The campus was okay, and some good surrounding area.
Wow…if Denton is the 2nd shittiest town…can I suggest Stephen F. Austin University as a “better” option?..cause Nacogdoches is the bomb!!!(joke…obviously). Denton is far from a shitty town…trust me,I’ve seen da shit.
As a musician you would really like Denton. Denton is in no way the 2nd shittiest city in TX. Lubbock sucks Midland sucks

If you are a REAL musician, Lubbock is THE place to be outside Austin.
Lubbock isn’t much to look at, but we crank out more music stars per capita than any other town in the US. It’s a fact.

Denton isn’t shitty, in fact, it is an extremely fun place to live for a college student. You can rent a full, nice house for very cheap (a decent one will run around $600-$800 a month), there is a very, very active music and social scene, plenty to do on any given night of the week, and you are just 30 minutes outside of Dallas or Ft. Worth. Plenty of art and culture per square mile in that tiny little town as well. There really is very little that is “shitty” about Denton. I made some of the best friends of my life going to college at UNT. Guys that are now 6 years later still good friends of mine. I have so many fond memories of that place and almost no bad ones. You’ll have a great time.

I actually auditioned at UT Austin as well.
I’m going for a Masters of Music in Classical Guitar performance and pedagogy/literature. Does that count as “real musician”?
I really did like TX when I was there. Denton was great. I would have loved to see more of Austin, but no car (flew in).

If that’s what you are studying I promise you will fit right in in Denton.
yeah UNT is defintely a fine arts school. their music program is pretty damn good. You’ll fit in pretty well there.
oh and denton is not the shittiest town in Texas, you have yet to be to Samsom park or Poolville, Peaster or the shitty little town I lived in.
