Anyone a Pilot?

I’ve been thinking about getting my Private Pilot license come 2010 and was wondering if anyone had any experiences or advice? It’d be for recreational purposes and the school I’m looking at would have me be doing most of my learning on a Cessna 172SP.

I am/was a pilot. I have 80-90 hours including my PPL and I had most of Instrument done. I let my license expire a couple years back because I decided I didn’t want to fly at the college I was at. I changed majors from Professional Pilot (tons of flying) to Airport Management(only needed PPL).

Even if you only want to do this for fun you need to realize now that if you enjoy it you will want to get your Instrument Rating. Flying Visual Flight Rules is fun for short trips and in the airport environment. However, if you start doing long distance cross countries you’ll want to use instruments to keep you on course. Plus Instrument Approaches are a lot of fun and will save your ass when bad weather creeps up on you in Florida.

See if you can find a place that will rent you a Cessna 152 for training. This should save you money plus if you can fly a 152 you can fly a 172 and vice versa. Interview potential Flight Instructors and don’t pay for this. Find somebody that seems to have a matching personality and schedule. Don’t ever take any shit off an instructor. They work for you not the other way around so at the end of the day you are the boss not them.

There are a lot of schools in Florida and I’ve heard both good and bad about them. I’d suggest you try and find a private instructor that isn’t associated with a school or at least don’t fly and try to get college credit for it. They’ll add a bunch of bullshit that will really ruin the experience. Cause no matter what they say it shouldn’t take 30+ minutes to do a pre-flight and flight plan just so you can dick around in the local environment doing touch and goes. Granted the first few times it might but after 10 hours you should know the Vy, Vx, weight and balance, and traffic patterns for your airport.

That’s all for now.

yes i am a pilot

My advice is to buy your own plane for the time being. The school rental rates are ball-breaking. Sell it once you’ve learned. Are you going to pursue IFR?

That’s a good plane to learn in, but you’ve got to figure it’ll take you between 40-60 hours on average to get your license, and most of that with an instructor.

If I were you, I’d find you own instructor. Find a good one. Fly often (3x/week). Min on your solo hours. I got my PPL in about 55 hours.

Fly often!

You Southern boys have all the good aviation facilities.

SoCal sucks for flying. Class B and C airspaces everywhere and expensive flight schools.

You’ll have a great future as a mercenary or gun/drug runner ahead of you. j/k.

Rope-hanging, back-flipping, plane-flying, teacher-banging (almost)…you should seriously write a book called “HOW TO LIVE” and distribute it to every emasculated, twinkie-inhaling sack of shit playing WoW.

Seriously.

My boyfriend and I used to have a Cessna 172. We sold it about 8 years ago. It was much, much cheaper than renting a plane.

I wasn’t laughing because I thought you were joking about being a pilot. I laughed because you declared you were a pilot, but didn’t elaborate. It’s like when someone yells, “Is there a doctor in the house?” and a doctor just says, “I’m a doctor” then does nothing.

heh heh
