This is pretty amazing, but painful. Beloki broke his femur just below the hip, as well as a compound fracture of his elbow and a broken finger. You can see how hard his helmet bounced off the road, he might be dead without it.
What was with that little shortcut Lance took? That was wild. I don’t see why he didn’t cut right back into the road, though. I wonder if he’ll be penalized for that.
I followed it on Cyclingnews.com’s live feed. Holy shit. Jeff is right, if you have any interest in this, tonight is the one to watch. The next couple stages are going to be very, very interesting. To say the least.
Watched it this morning; which is the morning routine lately.
OH MY GAWD. What a exciting stage. And the recovery Armstrong made after falling during the last 10km? And then he almost lost it again!
Wow. But thank god for his teammates. After the fall, they kept yelling back at him to remain calm, stay w/in his rhythm and that he still was in it. And he goes on not only to get back ahead of Jan Ullrich, but to win the stage, too.
But Jan Ullrich. What a powerhouse he is. AND it was he who after Lance’s fall, kept the front group back a bit ; just like what Lance did in a previous Tour after Jan was down with a flat tire. Amazing athletes.
I hadn’t seen anything of the Tour since Friday, and caught the CBS coverage. Seeing him lose time in the TT on Friday, then to have Vinokourov come within striking distance… I was nervous for Lance in todays stage. And now seeing him come back to take the stage and gain back some time!!! So much relief, but the race isn’t over. Lance is going to need to lay it out on the line on the coming TT. Vinokourov is, at this point, firmly in third, but Uhlrich could still take back some good time in the TT. Still a nail-biter.
That’s no shit. I took a couple hours sick time to stay home and catch the Luz-Ardiden stage live. Damn that was a good call!
I was jumping up and down yelling at the TV when Mayo attacked and Lance countered. Then he went down, and next thing I knew my wife was standing over me with some defib paddles in her hand. Then watching him catch and pass Chavanel, and the look of sheer determination on his face.
This was the best stage I’ve seen yet, and this Tour has to be one of the best ever.
patricia, tme,
thanks for the laffs, wife and i have defibed a few folks and screamed at the tv a few times.
wife & i spent our ride between thundercrackers today raving at the spectators, and trying to figure out a way to keep them out of the way. barriers all the way? no wine for the french? (her maiden name is LaFrance) we even yelled at the reruns!
now, on to the time trial! what a cerebral sport! a chess match of courage!
