Wow, reminds me how great the guys in Rush are, and how sad a display this really is. I’m all for video games, but video games where you get to do something you couldn’t normally do (flying a spaceship, playing pro football, being Batman…)

Flight Simulator and Lemmings comes to mind.

You can learn to fly with one, and bring an entire civilization to its untimely death in the other.

my sentiments exactly. It’s a fun party game, but once it goes beyond that and becomes a competition, why not just buy a real guitar and compete with people that have talent?

As a guy who took lessons for years from Doug Doppler who took over for Joe Satrianis teaching duties when he hit the big time, and being in bands when I was younger, I don't see what the big deal is at all. Kids are going to be kids, and at least they might get the bug to learn the real thing from playing a music oriented video game vs. the others. Which I don't have a problem with either.

But if they don't then who cares either?
It looks like a fun game, and I would have been all over it when I was younger I'm sure.

Saying you hate this generation is just dated and has been said with every generation. People will be who they are. Yeah some kids will probably dwiddle their brain away too much on these games, but most probably will move on to other things primarily with their time as they get older. There are plenty of things to bitch about concerning this generation, but there always will be as man evolves further won't there?

I get nostalgic and that's natural. Just be able to be happy with future generations being different, after all, it's gone on for a long, long time. This generation will be making big contributions to society undoubtedly with their computer prowess and abilities to use them. So, hell, these kids playing all these video games now, might turn out to be doctors and scientists who make amazing discoveries with their computer know how later when they get older....Yeah?

Anyway, good thread, and the guitar is a beautiful instrument. I still have my Steve Vai Jem, and two other Ibanez babies I'll never get rid of, even though my time is comitted to many other things now.

Happy Holidays Boys!! Now go out and get the latest video game and have some fun! LOL.

P.S. Gotta love the choice of song from the kid too. Rush is one of the baddest fucking bands ever especially for being three dudes. Love it.
                 ToneBone

I play real guitars. Does that count for anything anymore?

You should probably just settle for being happy that kids these days are even listening to music by a great band like Rush.

Who gave you the right to say what’s fun, What’s fun for me will not be fun for you, I personally Enjoy playing video games, role playing board games and stuff like that. Where as baseball may be fun for you.

I play guitar, and I like Gutiar Hero. One takes time, patience, and diligence to master, while the other is fun out of the box.

Exactly.

It’s just a game, and there’s nothing wrong with too much fun.

Hell no. Not in my book, at least.

I don’t have a link, but I remember reading on several sites that Guitar Hero has actually driven up sales of actual guitars and that people who give guitar lessons have seen an increase in business since the game came out.[/quote]

I don’t know about this one. I teach lessons, and I’ve about doubled my studio size since last year–but I still only teach 20 kids/week. Personally, I think the guitar is a “cool” enough instrument that just about every suburban kid wants to play it at some point. Fortunately for me, parents have money to pay for lessons.

Guitar hero is fun, but I doubt it increased interested in guitar any. What I think has increased business for lesson givers, such as myself, is the large amount of young parents with disposable income–not only that, but it’s fashionable to have your kid learn an instrument.

I play guitar, but I’m not so into guitar hero. It’s fun to do, but whatever. Maybe if they come out with a “classical guitar hero” I’ll be down. Then kids can get a feel for what it’s like to “play” Bach and Sor and Brouwer.

The walls are melting!

This is kinda cool:

I play guitar, own 4 of them now, and i also own Guitar Hero II, and also Guitar Hero: 80’s… They’re fun, and if nothing else, its nice to see some of my fellow youngsters listening to some solid music from the past.
