Hey guys I’m going to learn to speak spanish, I have been delaying it for long enough now, consdiering I am a project manager for a construction company and it is a crucial tool in this industry. I was hoping you guys could suggest the best method to learn books, tapes, classes extc.
I consider myself quite the cunning linguist!
Although I have several years of spanish classes, I really want to learn more. Speaking spanish is going to be ever more important in America in the future.

Are you any relation to Colonel Angus?
move to texas
you’ll pick it up real quick. also, i forget the name of the cd’s but best buy carries the programs for learning various languages. they arent too bad. i cant remember the name, something immersion. but finding someone who is fluent, preferably a hot colombianita ;), and simply carrying conversation with them will do more for you than any book or cd IMO.
www.studyspanish.com should be a good resource, it’s what I use to study for my high school spanish exams.
Dating (or whatever you want to call it) a Spanish or Hispanic girl is your best bet. I picked up quite a few things.

I am international affairs student and am currently learing mandarin. The best way to learn a language is to experaince it first hand. However, i have heard that the Roseta Stone program is the best out there by far and offers a wide variety of languages.
I was born in the States, but Spanish was my first spoken language since many of my family members don’t speak English. As such, I can tell you that Spanish has a lot of little complexitites to it.
I think that your best bet is enrolling at a community college or university and learning from someone who can answer any questions that you may have. Also, in a class, you’ll be forced to talk to everyone in Spanish. That’s the best way to learn it.

Did they all clear up?
You should know, given our close proximity, one of them probably was your girl.

I’ve learned Italian and some Irish Gaelic using the Pimsleur methods, and they really work well! It’s just for the spoken word but that’s certainly more than enough to get by. The method uses some specific timings to get words into your head in the best way possible. I’m not clear on the science but I do know it really works!
here’s wikipedia’s article on it:
