Any Guitar Players? Need Advice...

Greetings fellow T-Nationers,

Here’s the deal… In high school I started learning guitar, learned some basic chords and strumming. I eventually lost interest. I became a drummer, which I love.

Now 6 years later, I have decided to learn to play.

Does anyone have some advice as far as how they got started, what the best method is to teach ones self, specific books/materials etc.

I’ve been playing for over 25 years - and I’ve been fortunate enough to study with some amazing teachers.

Most specifically Al Pitrelli from TSO, MegaDeth and Asia, as well as John Petrucci from Dream Theater. My advice - find a great teacher and study. You can certainly teach yourself, but a solid instructor will accelerate your progress greatly.
