Any Car Audiophiles on Here

I’m looking to purchase an amp, it will be powering the power acoustic thin 13bx. It’s rated at 700 watts.
Amp #1. Soundstream tn2.600d I can get 600 watts x1 out of this, D class.

Amp #2. Soundstream stl2.350 this will put out 350 watts x1, A/B class.

Here’s the question, the first one is class D but puts out more power, the second one is rated A/B which is supposed to be a finer cleaner more dependable power rating. I’m leaning towards the 600 watts but it’s $50 more.

Thoughts…

Spend the $50.

I’m not, but, I’m looking to re do the system in one of my vehicles. I’ll be following this one with interest.

I’d personally go with amp 1 since your running it to a subwoofer. Whether you are going SPL or SQ in my opinion doesn’t mean crap and I would rather run the sub at a high rating. You can always adjust with the boost controls on the amp to get the right amount of bass entering the cabin. So yeah, spend the extra $50.

I’d generally agree with the others and go with the first one. For a sub, its doubtful that you’ll be able to hear a difference between a class A/B and a class D at the same volume. As a general practice, I would generally try to match the speaker (sub) rms power rating to the amp’s rms. Since you said your sub is rated at 700 (I assume rms and not max), neither is ideal but the first one is pretty close. 3 things to keep in mind 1) you didn’t say what the resistance of the sub was, so there is no guarantee you will even get the 600 watt output, 2) I didn’t see any specs for thd and 3) the power terminal might only allow 8ga wire (only an issue if you were planning to run lower gauge).

What is the ohms rating on them. If they are all 4 spend the extra 50 does not really help with one speaker unless it is duel voice coil but every time you cut you ohms in half you almost dbl the output. So if others go lower i would get on of them. Then you can add more subs and not have to buy another amp. Also get a good electric cossover .It has been a while for me but i had 2 18 s 5 15s and 2 12s all in the back seat and hatch of a volkswagon blew 158 dbls in comps .

God damn Duramax600, that is some serious bass. I thought the 4 12’s I had my Mustang was a lot. Anyway, not sure the resistance, speaker is 4 ohms and single voice coil, and both amp ratings are at 4 ohms bridged.

Thanks for the info.

So go with the class d then. It is 300x2 bridged to 600 . Yea it was loud the metere only went to 148 and they always turned in down 10 db and it would still blow out the meter.
Mustang i had one stuffed to 18 in duel band pass boxes in the trunk of one of them. I still have books around somewere if you need measurements for building you own box.
