When will terrorism end? Never. You thought it would? LOL

As long as there’s a big army with lots of stuff and people, small armies without any stuff or people will be engaged in “terrorism”

Why would you ever take on a Super Star Destroyer when you can fly a snub fighter down the equatorial trench and land a proton torpedo down an exhaust port. Sure, the exhaust port’s only 2 meters wide, but you used to bullseye Womp Rats that size back at Beggar’s Canyon.

(Sorry, got Sith the other night and now I’m working my way through the Original Trilogy.)

That was and is the problem all along. The arrogant, neoconservative asswipes and their supporters actually believed they could stomp out terrorism for good because they are in control. And they got masses of uninformed idiots to follow behind and support them.

Don’t you know that’s how it works in the movies? Which is where they got their gameplan from anyway. The “good guys” come in and stomp out the “bad guys” and then they ride off into the sunset, because, as we all know, the villians have been defeated. Their limited, short-sighted, egotistical mindset knows no bounds.

And your solution to the problem of terrorism is…?

Unfortunately human nature deems that this will never end. The only answer would be to change human nature, which won’t happen anytime soon.

That is like asking what the solution to murder is, or the solution to car theft. As long as there are people who get off on creating “fear” in a society or commiting large acts of mass violence, there will be “terrorists”. That is a fact of life. We can discourage some of it, but walking around believing that a war in Iraq will end all terrorist acts is just retarded.

Please, spare me the sarcastic quips. You and I both know that if I had that answer, I’d be the most revered person in the world and I wouldn’t be wasting my time reponding to you on this board. It is that kind of short sighted concept of an absolute solution that got us into this mess to begin with.

However, I know what could have helped us for the long term is better planning and less John Wayne cowboy tactics. I know the later appeals to many “shoot them all and let God sort them out later” people on this board and in this country, but it is not good for long term success.

Obviously by your post you are either playing devil’s advocate or you bought into the party line and feel a need to lash out at someone who doesn’t buy into it like you do. Either way, it is a sad thing.

His question is very real and important.

If our current actions are not the right ones what are?

Too many posters simply criticize our current efforts and show absolutely no insight to what we should actually be doing.

Our current effort is not perfect, but it is likely better than inaction.

I don’t happen to be one who thinks that the war in Iraq will decrease terrorist acts. What will do that is higher security HERE in this country along with increased awareness by the general population. Anyone with the potential to harm again here is probably already in this country, not killing our soldiers (over 2,000 and counting) over in Iraq. If the people we are fighting aren’t afraid to die for what they believe, who aside from the greatest cheerleaders believe they are afraid of “texan machismo” or American activity in Iraq?

Too many posters simply cheerlead whatever actions the administration takes and show abolutely no interest in whether or not it is a suitable course of action.

The current course of action is so unclear, perhaps it is distracting from other possible courses of action, like funding first responders, implementing recommendations from the 9/11 study and securing the borders.

You are confused.

You see, all the liberals have to do is spout off about what a waste of lives the Iraq war is. They don’t have to give any real answers and they don’t!

Just take a look at some of the pathetic comments on this thread. That’s one reason that the (democratic) liberals are out of power and will be for some time to come. They have no answers only criticisms.

Think back to the last Presidential election. Where did Kerry stand? Lot’s of criticism, but not much in the way of answers. It is indeed a difficult problem and I don’t think for a second that President Bush has all the answers. However, he has a plan and is willing to lead. And that places him head and shoulders above all of the leading liberal democrats who seem only to be able to criticize without offering any solutions.

True. I do not see the slightest connection between this act of terrorism and the Iraq war. Now please do not go off into a tirade on the justification or non justification of the war. Terrorism in this part has been happening before any war on terror was undertaken.

Seems like these fools are just fighting over disputed territory. But killing women and children to prove their point? Na. Idiots.
The only solution I can see in such cases is that the non rogue nations of the West and the East should come down hard on the sponsors of terrorism. Seems like here too the usual suspects will once again be the usual culprits.

Solutions possible? Opinions anyone?

The pertinent question, though, is: Where is he leading us?

You make an interesting point about stopping terrorism here in the US. Of course this is very important but many of the tools necessary to do this are intrusive to our civil rights and privacy. You have pointed this out many times.

I do believe we have let political correctness get in the way of some of our efforts, particularly airport security.

I also think we cannot fight this war strictly defensively. We need to stop it at the source, and the source is radical islam from the middle east.

What is going on in Iraq is the first step in trying to remake the face of the middle east. This is ambitious, perhaps overly so, but it is the course we have taken and I will support the effort.
harris447 wrote:

He is leading us on an ambitious effort to marginalize radical Islam by changing the face of the middle east.

Believe it is possible or not, that is your choice.

The rest of the blather is just political bullshit.
Zap Branigan wrote:
That’s only one source. We have been hit before by terrorist that didn’t have a thing to do with Iraq. Oklahoma was Iraq’s fault? I agree that we need to attack this in other ways and believed that to be the case from the start.

To eliminate terrorism is to change foreign policy. That is the only thing that will prevent it.

Terrorism needs no base, it needs no country to work out of. Therefore the Iraq war is not a war against terrorism.

For every crazes islamic militant, there are many more to take his place. It will absolutely never end until foreign policy is changed. If we support Israel, then we will be the target of the terrorists. Get comfortable with it.

Once again I use the example of Ireland as an example of prolonged terrorist tactics. No one in GB said, “Why is the IRA bombing us?” They knew why. As do we. And GB realized until peace was achieved, the bombings would not stop. And that was a war of religion also.

Start all the wars in all the countries you want. There will be no stop until we stop meddling in forign affairs as we do. And with the Republicans following the Wolfowitz doctrine to the “T”, that does not look like it will happen anytime soon.

And as for Kerry, he did not have a good plan either. Until America has a drastic change, we will be the target.

sarcasm on Zeb, you don’t mean to tell me you can’t remember where Kerry stood. Don’t you recall the “secret plan” he was going to unveil as soon as he was elected? He didn’t have a plan for anything all he said was it was secret and we would all find out as soon as he was elected. Thats like getting your ass kicked in a fight(the presidential election) and saying that the reason you lost was because the only moves you knew would have really hurt or killed your opponent.
