Hi I have been using the AD for almost 4 weeks now and the results have been almost non existent. I do realise that you have to spend more time on it before you get results, but i’m unsure of wether I should continue. I’ve spoken to a few different people about this way of eating and some have said that you will not get any health problems if you are consuming enough good fats(fish and olive oils) and some have said that you will get health problems no matter what good fats you include.
I personally find this diet to be pretty simple and the weekend carb ups are great, but I seem to be putting all the weight/fat back on during the weekend and having to start from scratch. If I was 100% sure that I will not get any health issues from this, then I will stick to it until my body is fully fat adapted and the results start showing.
My original plan was to stick to it for a few months and hopefully get rid of my excess fat (about 15 lbs). I would then switch to a more healthy way of eating (if this is not a healthy way). I am confused as there is so much conflicting info on high fat high protien diets.
My main goal at the moment is to lose my excess fat and then aim to increase lean mass. Although i’m not in a hurry for this (I don’t have a comp to work for) I would like to get the fat of as quickly as possible and then spend the next few years adding muscle.
I’ve just been reading through a few Christian Thibaudeau’s articles and was thinking of switching to an identical programme.
I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks.
Hey, I’m thinking about starting the AD on Monday. I believe that the initial calorific recommendations are generally for maintenance, which may explain why you’re just bouncing around - the idea is after 4-6 weeks you start modifying it to cut / gain; however I may be off base so to some of the old hands - no need for flames. Note that you will put on weight on the weekend always due to the added carbs increasing your water weight.
Consider decreasing overall cals and or decreasing the length of your carb up - have you got the eBook?
Can you give an example of your diet? Also without you even posting your diet I would suggest that your carb days be clean carbs. If you are eating pizza, cake, soda, ect that might explain why it isn’t working as well.
Finally did you do the 14days of 30grams carbs or less? If not then your body may not have made the switch yet.
First get the e-book if you haven’t already. Read mdragron thread on this site and visit the MWA site and read the thread on AD by jen heath. Good information.
Again as stated make sure you did the 12 day of low carb induction. Count every carb you eat. If you feel that you have become fat adapted, then is the time to adjust to a cutting phase or a mass phase.
In the cutting phase you adjust your calories by adjusting the formula of 18 x TBW, which was suggested to 15,13,14 etc x TBW. Since I have a stubborn metabolism I actually started at 13 x TBW and now adjusted to 8 x TBW. Carb ups on the weekend have to be clean.
There is also that social occasion that comes up, but you learn to adjust for it. On the weekend it was suggested not to consume more thatn 300 g to 1000 grams of carbs. Find a number for yourself and count the carbs only on the weekend. Then on Monday return to no more than 30 g. of carbs daily. Depending on the multiple you use, you then adjust your fats, and protein’s to fit. Carbs are never more than 30 g daily.
This is a wonderful way to eat. Don’t know about the mass phase, but I am doing well on the cutting phase. It’s a matter of understanding program and dailing it in.
Please read all the thread’s and ask questions. You have already devoted 4 weeks, I think you can do this, but get some more info. There are alot of knowledgeable people on this site and MWA, Jen Heath, Tampa Terry and many others. Write your daily eating plan down and get some feed back. You have a great program and a great site to get all the support you need.
Thanks guys for the replies/advice. I do have the ebook and am still reading through it, however I have read the main rules of the diet. I did do the initial 12 days and have had 2 carb up weekends so far. The both carb ups have been dirty, I have been eating a lot of junk so maybe that has something to do with it. This weekend will be as clean as possible.
I have never visited the mwa site, so I will be taking a look now.
How do I know once i’m fat adapted.
To be honest I don’t keep a log of my eating, I just calculate it roughly from what I eat.
I am still a bit concerned about the health concerns and would like to know if this is a safe way to eat.
The problem I have is probably down to having so much info at hand. I see articles from people who have made great gains and I want to jump on to what they have done instead of following something through.
Cheers.
