But man, that’s the sign. The trousers that fit your waist do not fit your thighs, while those that fit your thighs have enough material left over in the waist to make a vest.

Just yesterday I got in a lot of trouble making a “big thigh” comment. My wife has been doing a lot of squats and lunges lately and I thought I would be nice and compliment her on her leg/glute development.

It came out something like, “Wow honey, your thighs and butt are so much bigger than they were six months ago.” Those of you that are married can only imagine the look I got…

“Wow honey, your butt and thighs are so much MORE SHAPELY than they were six months ago…”

Fixed that for you.

School of Hard Knocks. I have bruises that still haven’t healed from things like this.

Yeah, I know that look. Took me a long time, but I eventually learned not to say that sort of thing so often.

And just think, I wasn’t going to go near that “thighs to big for my pants” comment. I wanted to, but I didn’t.

You guys are lucky, You’ve got someone to give you those looks…when I say something not-so-bright, I’m usually the only one that hears it. Dam lucky bastards.

Incorrect. I thought you all were successfully married. Correct: “Wow honey, you are looking great.”

  1. The specific temporal reference contains the implicit statement “Because six months ago you looked like …” Complete the ellipsis with whatever astute description you prefer to have uttered just before the frying pan hits your head.

  2. Praising specific body parts might be taken as implying less than unlimited enthusiasm for the rest or the whole of the package. Embark on this analytical path of no return only if you are prepared to discuss the pros and cons of all body parts in detail. Shortly after you begin to point to the laddie pictures on T-Nation in illustration of your finer judgments, the frying pan will hit your head.

At least, I believe that is how it is done in France.

OK, this I do NOT understand. And I’ve been through the transformation process myself.

If you take up painting, you hope to improve. If you show your spouse your progress you would be delighted to hear a few compliments. “Honey, your use of color and texture has gotten so much better!” If you took up tennis you would be thrilled if your spouse complimented your game. “Hey, your serve is really getting better!”

So what’s the difference with working out? The muscles (drum roll please) get bigger? Waa. That’s part and parcel of lifting weights. If ya don’t wanna get a little muscle then you might wanna take up knitting. Real simple equation, ladies!

I believe you’re overthinking it.

There may be an inferred criticism there but that lies with the neurosis of the hearer.

Bar that, and such statements can only be taken as compliments.

True - I hadn’t eaten yet when I posted.

No humor fuel in the tank.

Thanks for your patience.

Well, had to move Saturday’s work-out to Monday and Tuesday’s to Wednesday for a week or so, have a wedding this week-end, family duties last week-end.

I’ll get my schedule straightened out in a couple of weeks.

Just too soon to take an off-week, and way too soon to take two in a row.

Did my Saturday split this morning.

Gym was empty except for a personal trainer and a client of his who was just starting and learning good form.

Pull-ups, meant to have 17.5 pounds of assist for 2.5 lb improvement. That is what I had for the last rep. Otherwise, a lot less assist.

Neutral Grip Pull-up
-17.5 x 9 … +2.5

Bent Over Dumb bell Row
70 lb x 6 reps … -3 reps (ah, to be like Skidmark, knocking out 100+lb rows with each arm). The arms gave out long before the back did.

Woodchop
127.5 x 8 … +2.5

Shoulder Press
97.5 x 9 … +2.5 a warm-up, but I felt it today

Bench, second time
117.5 x 9 … +2.5

Rotations (the rotator cuff exercises)
45 x 10 for each of the four

Neck (got a strap and got started)
20 lb x 9 for each of the four directions.

Glad the gym was pretty empty when I was pulling the bench over and adjusting it. I’m not tall enough. I may try to just do these standing. But I need to build neck strength. I’m a long way from where I used to be where I could bridge with another guy on top, against a figure four applied against my neck.

In and out in well under thirty minutes.

Got a load of laundry in the wash and a load in the dryer too, made my daughter eggs and ham for breakfast while I had my protein shake.

But man, I feel it if I go more than seven days between work-outs, my strength starts to fade and it is a lot harder.

Probably because you were working harder on the pull-ups. Why not switch these around since you can get assistance on the pull-ups?

I’ll bet if you put a push exercise in between the pullups and the rows your reps’ll get better.

If I don’t do the pull-ups first I just gas on them.

I think I’m going to figure out a way to follow skidmark’s advice and work something in, probably the neck exercises.

I’ll bet if you put a push exercise in between the pullups and the rows your reps’ll get better.

Maybe I need to move the shoulder press in there too. It is just a warm-up for the later bench press, and would fit in as well.

Thanks for the suggestion Skidmark.

Would agree with the Skidmark on this one. You may be overloading your arms pairing these two together.
I super set rows with squats.
Love doing pull ups, by raising knees into air you can also target the abs.

All of my supplements except for about 3 or 4 were specially made for me based on my blood profile, my weight, and my particular needs.

The job of my doctor was to boost my testosterone levels as high as possible WITHOUT taking any illegal substances. During the time when I was competing my testoterone levels were between 700 and 820. Now please understand that over 700 is PHENOMENAL!! And I did all this roid free.

But it requires discipline out the ying-yang. YOU HAVE TO EAT the right stuff at the right time - WITHOUT FAIL. You cannot miss meals, slack, or shy away from HEAVY SQUATTING!! Heavy squatting is NECESSARY to boost testosterone levels.[/b]

Words from Rhadi Ferguson

So, daudowen is on to something there.

Got a link? I’m all for increasing my testosterone levels. I hate it when I start seriously considering the merits among different carpet/drape combinations…

Dunno about that 5:30 AM workout time though.

That is from a post of Ferguson’s on Judoforum.com

Get your T levels as high as he got his and you could be getting up at 5:30 p.m. and making those kinds of gains
