By not allowing fat people to use public resources funded partially by their own tax dollars, then you are saying you are ok with a government imposed morality. What if the bus system also didn’t allow large bodybuilders to ride, would you be ok with that too?

Reread his post. He is talking about fat models on the catwalk.

You’re the one who missed something if you think the entirety of his post was about fat models on the catwalk.

Reread all of these posts. My reply was to Stronghold’s comment about fat people not being able to use public resources. It makes sense, but not in this conversation. No one (unless I completely missed something, which hey, is possible) here said that fat people should be barred from using public resources. Modeling shows aren’t government services, and the rest of his post was about hating fat people, and honestly, people are allowed to hate. It isn’t usually socially acceptable to voice honest opinions, but that’s a matter of whether or not he’s okay with being disliked.

It seems you don’t have the ability to read between the lines as Stronghold(and other responding posters) did.

Reading between the lines isn’t the same as putting words in his mouth though.

Neither is failed sarcasm.

I win because- 1. There was no attempt at sarcasm (making failed sarcasm impossible), 2. I put a pair of boobs, and you failed to one up me.

Good for you. Now you get to pass the 5th grade. Would you like your cookie and glass of Kool-Aid as well?

Although you are right, and I agree with you, you have to think of it this way:

What have you gained from doing this?

You are in school to get a good grade. You are not in school to make a point or change the world. You have effectively made everyone in the class mad at you, including the sole-decider of what grade you get in this class.

I always hated kids like you in school who tried so hard to ‘be different.’

Doesn’t sound like he’s “trying to be different”, sounds to me like he’s just writing about something he believes strongly in, whether he’s right or wrong it’s much better than just being a fucking sheep to get a grade. Why is it that whenever anyone is different, they are “trying” to be that way? If no one plays the devils advocate then how many people ever really think through both sides of the argument?

School isn’t the place to play the devils advocate. There are other, more appropriate mediums for him to do this. School is there for him to show up, show that he can do what he is asked, and get a good grade, allowing him to further his education and better himself. Once he has gone through this process, people may start listening to him.

No one is going to listen to the drop-out who failed because he thought he’de write a clever essay.

You’re right, I just wish that you weren’t. Schools shouldn’t be conformity machines, they should encourage you to think. I’ve seen plenty of people come out of school with A’s and B’s and not really know anything and plenty of smart people (people probably a whole lot more useful) do worse due to bad relationships with specific teachers and other crappy circumstances. Admittedly most of the smarter people who did badly (well not badly but not an A) did so because they didn’t give a shit, something I have been guilty of a lot in the past.

I’m currently in college. I go to school, I suck up and do what I am asked, and I get good grades, who cares if I learn anything?

I don’t need to learn anything or voice my opinion in school, I’ve got the internet for that.

So you’re paying for an education that teaches you nothing? I never understood going to college for the sake of going, if you have a passion to study something, then yeah go for it, however if you are going because society is telling you to go and all your friends are going, doesn’t that defeat the purpose? Especially if you feel that you aren’t learning anything.

My point exactly.

On a side note, not directed to anyone in particular, why are there so many sensitive people on this website?
What you call “sensitive” I call “passionate”.

Nice tits by the way.

Stop being so cool and clever. I can’t handle it.

Now, THAT was sarcasm.

I’ve been wondering this lately as well. Sand in the vagina would be my guess.

I actually always hate kids who just take shit just for teachers just for some dumb grade. Isn’t the idea of being a T-man speaking your mind and not conforming the society being your own man and not taking shit?

Part of being a man (not “T-Man”, but an adult) is learning to pick and choose your battles wisely. Pissing off your teacher and embarrassing yourself in front of your classmates is not traditionally considered to be a “wise move” - especially in high school.

Part of being a man means standing up for what you believe in… when it matters. High school English class isn’t the place for you to fight for some ideal you snagged off of a website. It’s about playing the fucking game to get a good grade and make your life a little easier when it comes time to consider higher education. No one in life will EVER give a shit (in a good way, at least) that you made an ass out of yourself by belittling fat people, insulting your teacher and nearly reducing your class to tears, and it certainly won’t help strengthen your character as a person.

I’m not recommending the OP change his stance on issues, or even change his essay topic, but merely suggesting that he smarten the hell up and learn some tact.

Oh, and who the fuck uses the term “T-Man”?
Lol I could have just said man but since this is T-Nation It kind of makes since… I guess your right lol its still hard not too insult your teacher when they insult you but I guess sometimes you just gotta ignore them

My essay clearly won’t be so harsh and ye in class I did come across way too harsh and saying 'hate" was a douche bag thing to do but my intentions were to highlight the high health risks involved in glamorizing obesity.
I think the essay will be just fine as long as you stick to the intensions that you just stated. The big issue you will have now is that if you present this topic, everyone will still be thinking back to the last time you stated your beliefs on obesity. I would suggest prefacing your presentation with a little reflection about on what you intended to talk about and ask people to focus on the message you are trying to convey to them and not their personal feelings on obesity and body image. This is not an apology or a “gee my bad, lets start over” session, just a little way to set a new tone and hopefully calm people’s initial prejudices that may still be present from your last conversation.

Good luck. I think you have a good topic and I hope that it can be well received…you may also want to work to distinguish the difference between a positive self body immage and glamorizing obesity.

Hey guys,

A couple of days back for English class we had to choose a topic and do a 1000 word discussion on it. I chose to discuss “Why fat models should not be allowed on the cat and why it is not an effective method of fighting anorexia” I also said that fat people should not be proud of their body and should not be encouraged and should in fact be looked down upon.

My teacher and the rest of the class were left shocked most of their jaws dropped to the floor and as my teacher picked her jaw up off the floor she tried to convince not to do such a controversial topic because apparently her daughter is also obese. So I told her to stop feeding her daughter shit and toughen up. I told the class I hate fat people and that I would not choose another topic as I live in a democracy and I have the right to express my anger at fat people who think being 10 sizes too big or not being able to see your own toes is beautiful.

Everyone had a go at me for watching what I eat and obsessing over my body. One girl even said this “how would you feel if I chose to discuss why protein is bad for you?” WTF, I felt like slapping the bitch in the face but didn’t :frowning:

Tell me guys, did I do anything wrong?
(btw many people were left almost in tears after my little outburst and no one in my class is fat, that just goes to show how much we accept ‘fatism’ as our norm these days)
Good for you!! It was overly strong and said spilled your true fillings. But who cares. People that say it like it is, they’re true feeling are always looked down upon. John Mcenroe, Rick Barry. But like I said, good for you.

If that is what you think and if your paper was based on some logic,I would say it is good. After all fat people are a burden on society - healthy peoples insurance premiums are higher to cover the fat peoples health problems. The Centers for Disease control rank obesity as the number one health problem - for their own sake they should realize fat is a physical, mental and social illness. The fat are a blight on society in every way.

I knew someone with an English class 2 years ago and the teacher was openly gay. They wrote a paper on why gays should not be allowed to be in Boy Scouts. Teachers should be able to seperate their emotions from their task of being a teacher - but they probably can’t : especially fat gays - I mean lets face it they are overeating largely because they can’t deal with emotions in a mature way, and gays often carry alot of emotional baggage. So talking gay and fat is a good way to bring out the emotions.

lmao makin people not like you is not a good idea
but i totally agree
i hate fat kids

My friends and I play the fat card game nowadays. The rules are very simple but you have to play when out and about with a group of people for a bit of time. You each get one card which you play by saying ‘I play my card’ when you see the fattest person you think you’re going to see that day, and after everyone has done this you see who chose the fattest person. Great fun for all the family.
