We get to watch Portland run our first trial on this. It should be entertaining.

We have lots of people addicted to heroin over here and they live seemingly normal lives. The trick is they they’re using prescription pain pills. Heroin also differs because its users are physically ill without it. They seek their fix first thing in the morning just to get back to “normal”.

Meth is from the devil. I’ve never met a recreational user. Meth is the only drug that came with a story like “I spent three days naked in a closet”.

That will be interesting, I’m sure it can be done badly, but hopefully they get it right and focus on rehab and reintegration. It also needs to be run for long enough, not something that will bring instant changes and definitely shouldn’t be a political rod to beat the opposition with (although I’m sure it will be).

It is tricky and I know that I’ve not got the same experience as someone like yourself in the front line. I have zero knowledge of meth, been out of the drugs scene for too long, not sure if it’s a thing over here or not. Sounds terrible, although I have stories like that from alcohol!

Week 3: Wednesday

Gs1:
Cable row (straight handle): 70kg X 20 X 6 sets
Bench: 60, 70, 80, 87.5kg X 5, 97.5 X 3, 107.5kg X 8
GHR: 6 X 6 sets
Cable crunch (facing away from stack): 70kg X 10 X 6

Gs2:
Cgbp: 90kg X 7 X 4
Bb curl: 45kg X 6 X 4
Cable crunch (facing stack): 50kg X 8 X 4

Called it early, had zero desire to train before I began only reason I didn’t skip is because of schedule, if that gets out of sync then I’ll struggle to stay on track. I wasn’t overly enthusiastic during, the bench went ok, got slightly out of position on 8th, so didn’t push any more, but think I’ve got 2 more in me there. Happy with it considering, more reps on the accessories, the change of grip on rows made an interesting switch, will keep that for a week or two. CGBP didn’t feel great on shoulders.

Weight 210 this morning so holding ok, eating crap, still got a cold and still not sleeping enough, vicious cycle I need to break and get my recovery game on!

Thing to note: my hamstrings are complaining like they’ve worked super hard, not sure I agree with them, I hit those deadlifts but that was 6 days ago, since then I had squats which were light, a few kb swings and GHRs by nothing crazy. Also had a casual bike ride and some easyish walks, but really can’t see these being anything but restorative.

They’re not enjoying going up stairs and threatening to cramp up on me. Good job I’m deloading deads tomorrow!

Week 4: Friday - deload

Ss1:
Ng chins X 5
BB row: 60kg X 10
5 (or maybe 6) times through

SS2:
Single arm angled cable pulldown: 30kg X 12
Straight bar seated cable row: 30kg X 25

5 times through

Finisher
Wg pullup: 8-> Ng chins: 5 → lat pd: 80kg X 10 → Ng cable rows: 80kg X 12 → 60kg 15 X → 40kg X 20

Done. Quick, easyish session back pumping. Those single arm angled pull downs are money. Still not feeling well recovered but sleep was worst for a while last night so no surprise, hopefully a recoverfull weekend ready to smash those squats Monday. 8 working days left until I finish the day job for Christmas so that’ll help and be a welcome break.

Back selfies are an absolute art, as of course is posing, I possess neither skill, had to get the Mrs to take this. Haven’t seen my back in a while:

No idea why my lower back skin looks like I’ve lost 100lbs.

Looking pretty wide dude. It’s also nice to see a topless picture without your dick winking at me.

Thanks dude.

Don’t pretend you don’t love it.

Week 4 day 2 (aka Monday)

Today was supposed to be the day of squats 160kg x 10…

Gs1
kB swings: 24kg X 3 X 5 sets
Squats: 60, 80, 100kg X 5, 120kg X 1, 127.5kg X 5, 142.5kg X 3, 160kg X 11 (I genuinely thought I counted 10!)
Cable crunch: 40kg X 12 X 5 sets

Ss:
Chins: 10 X 3 sets
Dips: 20 X sets

My back was hurting, not aching but hurting after the first few sets, got up to 127.5 and thought about ditching, but had a suspicion that is was either swings or crunches or both, not squats so hit the 142 without swing or crunches, didn’t feel too bad, still doubting myself but thought I’ll load it and start recording and if it feels bad or heavy just do a single.

Well they were higher than Snoop Dogg but got my back held out and my quads got some work in, my knees and hips felt good too, obviously appreciated the deload. Had a bit of fun racking the weight…

Only realised it was 11 after counting the reps in the video.

Cut the accessories short just because I was blown out after the squat and the super awkward unload of that bar, took about 10 mins it was wedged, I couldn’t lift it off.

Well fuck dude, that nearly went bad. Love the look on your face when you realise what’s happened.

Strong stuff, buddy! Great effort. Now look after your back.
I know you like giant sets and I get why but at the same time, I can absolutely see this one upsetting the lower back.

Haha yea it was quite a surprise, I’ve done it before but been more controlled dumping the bar, which meant I recognised it before dropping out and just re-rack, I just dumped that and the results were well, self evident! Lesson learned.

Yea I always do, that could have been significantly worse if I didn’t have the straps, also greatly appreciated the fact the straps don’t bounce the bar or bend it, making that just mildly embarrassing and funny.

Thanks dude.

Yea might need to rethink that and just start off with some jumps and drop the ab work on the squats, I have a bit of history with minor back issues so don’t need to push my luck there!

Have a look at Krypteia Redux both the original and the Rhodes versions. Might find it’s a decent combo of heavy lifting and still getting your giant sets in.

Also: it’s probably my first program in the new year and it would be interesting to do it with someone else.

Which book is that in? I’ve got beyond, but not forever - he’s going to relent and release an ebook of it eventually…

I’d be keen to do another program with someone else as well, couple of precluders though, is it 3 days and can I keep my own deadlift program, if it’s yes to both of those I can get on board, also how long is it?

Its 3 day, it’s an outline, not a completely prewritten “do this” program, and yes, you can easily do your own deadlift program.

Just google Krypteia Redux Rhodes. First link is the public section of Jims blog with the outline, which also links the original Jim Wendler version.

It would look something like (all exercises could be substituted, i just went for the most boring variation)

Day 1:
Deadlift Main sets

Superset:
Squat FSL + chest supported row variation

Giant set:
SLDL
Pull ups
Dips

Day 2:
Squat 531 sets

Superset:
Bench FSL + DB rows

Giant set:
TBDL
Pull ups
Dips

Day 3:
Bench 531 sets

Superset:
Deadlift back off sets + pull ups

Giant set:
Goblet squats
Pull ups
Dips

Are the super sets on their own or do you still cram those in between the 5/3/1 sets?

On their own. So main lifts are done traditional style, then the supplemental for the next session is done supersetted with a back exercise, then a giant set to mop up any “accessories”
