I’ll confess despite having an ssb, I don’t really use it much, although when I do it’s more quad lift and my deads are sumo (pretty much toes to plate as well), not sure I’d get much carry over - I do need to use it more either way!
X2 I’ve recommended this to so many people. It’s so simple and effective. Simply add “some” assistance and get on with your life.
It’s a @T3hPwnisher trick, he can certainly explain it better than me, but essentially I start with my target weight and pull from a height of 6 “whatevers”. Next week, same weight, pull from 5, then 4… I think you get the idea. I used plates, which was a tricky balancing act, pwn uses patio tiles I believe.
Yup I’ve done 531 for long periods and never seen anything other than really mediocre results for deads - loved it for squat and bench, also not a fan of higher rep deads (really would rather keep it 6 and under) that the one lift that injures me if I screw it up (and sometimes when I don’t!).
Thanks for @carlbm and @dagill2 for the program recommendation - might have to do that now after BtM… I’ll reread it (have read it before) and mull it over.
Yes probably a big mental element to dead for me, not sure I’ve fully developed the ability to grind through the inertia at the bottom of the lift, thinking back to the 210 - if I could have kept a better brace as just kept pushing through I might have made it, I don’t normally break the floor of I fail, normally it’s just glued.
True, but I just see 200kg as an incredibly mediocre deadlift by any standards, let alone a male of my weight and years training.
That also true, the fact that I did 200kg deficit, means I’ve got more in me so fatigue might play a part, been under quite a bit of pressure in the day job and got some big life changes happening very soon (fostering, 0-12m - so even less sleep haha!). All that said I don’t feel physically fatigued which is great cos OHP needs maxing and maybe another run at 200kg squat this week haha.
Dewit
200 is still 200. Well done mate
Final test day (apart from the potential 2nd squat test day!)
Press…
Conditioning - deload ran at 7mph for about 7 minutes then realised how mind numbingly boring steady state cardio is and ramped up to 9mph to finish of the mile.
Chins all presses had X3 Ng chins pre ohp
Bar, 30, 40, 50 X 3
60, 70 X 1
80 X f, f
Well that sucks - I did channel my inner @simo74 and try and grind through it but both times there was just no movement glued just above the forehead. Frustrated but not surprised, I probably could have put a paltry PR up and hit 77.5 (previous pr 75) but not really the way I do things (could have probably pulled 205 on deads early in the week as well) - my stubborness not helping my own cause!
Video of fails to follow, much less enjoyable than simo’s vid!
Ah, so this is the fail you were referring to. You should go out and grab that PR at 77.5 if you got it in you. We all know about the glacial progression here, so take the mental win if it is there for the taking. It will help you in the future, because you will KNOW the leap up to 80 is paltry. Belief matters.
A wise piggy once told me that anything’s possible if you believe.
But I agree with @Cyrrex, just grab the PR next time you get a chance and race you to 80kg.
Yes you and @dagill2 are both right, stupid slow moving press!
You’re on! When do you reckon you’ll take a run at it?
I think I’m going to be pushed hard to get it done by Christmas, so I think you have time.
Where’s the belief?! Go for a Christmas miracle! I am hoping given BtM affinity for pressing that I might gain enough strength to get 80(+) over head!
Studying the videos above, I am pretty sure I can spot the problem causing the fail. It is the combination of the gentle Taylor Swift lyrics combined with the unusual coloring of your shorts.
Haha, I am so glad you spotted that, I’ll change both and try again! (The shorts were the cheapest generic football shorts I could find - gym only: they don’t rip when squatting!)
The music is intentional!
U r officially bigger than @alex_uk.
I absolutely believe it’s possible, just that I’m going to have to push ridiculously hard to manage it.
Just seen the videos (with sound off, thanks for the prewarn), and can’t help wonder why the bars loaded with 5s?
2 X 10, 2 X 5 each side - ceiling height - I can’t press with 20s.
Nope, he out-squats me easily, even with his one-centimeter-above-parallel squats.
