Well that makes a whole lot of sense, looks like I’m stuck with a more clothes washing and showers!
30/08/24 - AM
Sea swim, pushed a little further and harder than last time, got a lot colder, not thawed out yet!
31/08/24 - AM
L11 and bouldering/climbing
Bouldering was fun, the kids had a good time as well, definitely challenging for the forearms!
Videos or it didn’t happen
Funny enough my wife did take a video of me but it was on ropes not on bouldering, sure I’ll go again, was really enjoyable.

10 x 2 pump Burpees.
This week is crazy busy, with a huge amount of personal stress/pressure. Determined not to abandon physical stuff, but didn’t have time for what I’ve been trying to achieve (30 mins of cardio or a 45m session in the mornings) but whilst waiting for the teenage daughter to finish in the shower I realised I can do something - hit the Burpees, might squeeze a few more of those in before the end of the day (post written whilst waiting for said shower!)
PM - 45M W1 B2 D9
Pleased with a 3 plate paused squat for 3 reps, that assistance though was evil, the pauses just accumulated so fast, pretty sure on a really good day, I could hit 112.5kg x 30 in a single set, those pauses just make it another level.
Went light on the finisher, necessity really, but can definitely go higher next time.
Earned myself a barbell friction burn for my repeat efforts today.
That was painful enough to make try a set high bar around set 6, when I realised that was a squat that I hadn’t practiced in a long time and really was a different kind of squat.
Wish I could figure out how to low bar squat. No wonder I suck.
03/09/24 -
AM - 20 x 2 pump burpees (1 set of 10 whilst waiting for bacon to cook, 1 set whilst waiting for shower to warm up)
PM - 45M W1 B2 D10
05/09/24 - AM
A little over 1 mile run to church, then little over 1 mile back, different routes.
PM - 45M W1 B3 D11
Paused deads: 60, 100, 120, 140, 160kg x 4
S/s Ab Rollouts: 5 x 5 sets
Volume:
Regular deads: 120kg x 4 x 10 sets EMOM
Assistance:
Sumo stiff leg deads / BB rows - 60kg
7/7, 7/6, 7/5, 7/4, 7/4
Kept this light and muscle focused rather than movement.
Didn’t pause the assistance didn’t fancy pausing whilst rushing through work and fatigued, pausing already causes me discomfort, and I’m aware that it should make my form better but I don’t feel that personally. Happy with 160kg paused though, that’s a default PR, but my old max convo is 180kg (I’ve not tested for a long time) so good sign that things are working back towards old standards, then on to exceeding them!

Ohp: 40, 50, 55, 60kg x 5, 65kg x 4
S/s
Landmines: bar X 5 e/s x 5 sets
Bit gutted about that top set, felt a lot of fatigue coming in, huge lethargy all day, was going to call it at 60kg, but didn’t want to waste my own time and be a pussy, so had a word with myself and put some loud music on, was going well on the 65kg but the 4th rep got way out in front and I battled it with everything I had in me, a RPS of 10, but wanted 5!
Ohp: 40kg x 5 x 10 sets EMOM
Increase weight a little for next time.
This was the schedule for the assistance…
Fatigue from paused bench 3 days ago still there! I got to the 3rd close grip set and could barely get off the floor, two choices, bail, take the excuse and the easy way out, or be humble about my dire performance and still get a win. Option 2! I finished the rest of the required work by doing the ladies pushups on my knees and it was still crazy hard, I switched back to full pushups on the final set, got two reps and failed so finished that set on my knees as well. Brian you are a mad genius.
Have you considered simply pushing harder?
Weird, I was pulling, maybe that’s where I went wrong!
Good to see you enjoying some slow grinding misery. Really I am just glad that I am not the only one.
Haha, don’t worry I’m here for the suffering camaraderie!

Single arm farmers - 60kg x short distance there switch arm and back x 10 rounds emom
Using a standard barbell here, assuming real farmers handles would be better, even over a short distance it’s required adjusting, finding the balance point of a barbell is harder than I’d have expected, particularly under “pressure”.
Pull ups - 10kg x 3 x 10 sets EMOM
S/s
Leg raises (on a fancy backed station - luxury) x 5 x 10 sets
Almost all of the pull ups were dead stop, the range at the top got a little less towards the end.
Teddy bear squats: 50kg sandbag x 4 x 10 sets EMOM
Harder after the leg raises, made sure to keep them very honest - no bag resting on the leg at the bottom of the squat, squeezing it hard into my chest, which killing breathing - hard work, drowning in sweat.
Everything in my being was calling me to not do this, I’m feeling incredibly stressed with work and the source of stress is almost all from a differing moral standpoint (it’s complicated and I’m not able to give further details). This won’t be resolved and which is slated to get worse over the next few years. There is only one resolution to this situation and it’s taken me a while to get to this place, but that’s where I am, just to got walk the path now.
All that’s to say my head was desperate to just not do this, feel like I’m getting into a discipline now though, just pushing thoughts aside and almost going auto pilot into each session, that’s not to say the sessions are just ticking a box, they get my full attention and effort, but removing emotions and “queues” from my body is helping me just get the work done.

Zerchers: 20, 60, 80, 90, 100, 110kg x 4
S/s
Ab rollout: 10 x 6 rounds
Zerchers: 80kg x 3 x 10 rounds emom
X 3 rounds, the lunges and jumping lunges were 10 each side this each round took a surprisingly long time, I wasn’t going hammer and tong, but kept steady and kept moving took a maximum of 30 secs rest for the round, and didn’t really pause except rep 3 of jumping squats round 1&2 which was because my legs just felt destroyed in an instant, but pushed through that round 3. I’d imagine I’d get to 4 sets of this gets repeated regularly, but that’ll be a very hard, this was a solid challenge at the end of the session.
Zerchers were a first for me (default PRs ftw), but I was a) pleasantly surprised at my performance b) unpleasantly surprised by how they completely cut off my ability to breath and brace at the top end of the weights.
They didn’t feel massively challenging to my legs, mainly to the crooks of my arms and my ability to endure the sensation of being squeezed to death whilst trying to squat. I know smart, strong people use these and they’re in Brian’s program so I’m doing them, but I wonder, really what’s the point, what do they do that front squats don’t? Apart from soft tissue damage to the arms.
Top set:
more comfortable with an axle, do you have fat grips you can add to the bar ?
