I consider myself middle aged and I’m a bit younger than you both, but not by much. Others my age are still young, but a combination of life experiences and current responsibilities are why I consider myself such.
I did receive a running start from the military, got out just before turning 25 and immediately bought a house and had kids while peers were still “finding themselves”.
I don’t think my wife wants to call herself middle aged. Weird that for men, age can be cool, but it’s dreaded by many women.
For me middle age started at 40 along with the midlife crisis where I bought a motorbike (well another one)
Ignoring the old guy talk for a second… I actually did some training today! (And it was good!)
Conditioning: none, did some walking with kids/dog today - had just enough drive to push myself to train, not enough for cardio, so I didn’t, no excuses, just laziness.
Giant set 1:
Squat jumps: 5 X 6 sets
Deadlifts: 60, 100 X 5, 120, 140, 160, 180kg X 1
Ab rolls: 5 X 6 sets
Burpee pull ups: 5 X 6 sets
That’s conventional pulling, where 180 is a PR and big mental milestone gone, strength was clearly there for a while, but my pull is really starting to feel right now, the position is good the hinge feels like a proper fulcrum action now, back felt rock solid the whole way through only ab rolls felt off for my back going to ditch them again.
Gs2:
SJ: 5 X 3 sets
Deads: 145kg X 6, 5, 5
Ab rolls: 5 X 1 set (back started feeling worse)
Burpees pull ups: 5 X 3 sets
Emoms:
Squats: 80kg & blue bands (medium resistance) X 3 X 10 rounds
S/s
Football bar curls: 10kg X 10 X 10 rounds
Very hot (lovely day!) Plenty of sweat Turin’s tonight.
Great work!
Seriously, I’d buy a tshirt with that sweat print thing on it
Thanks Anna, I do keep up (as much as possible) with your journal (nice to be back at a gym again I bet!) But don’t comment much, as you’ve got enough overprotective dad’s commenting already!
Haha that’d be weird, plus I can get that sweaty t-shirts look for free anytime I want!
It’d work as a print design
Going back to the old man talk…
I understand the sentiment, I was married with a baby by 23, had second baby at 26, was driving an estate (station wagon for you over the pond) and towing a caravan (Google tells me that this would be a camper caravan in the states) owned property, was a company director and generally did old man stuff like smoke cigars and drink whiskey. I’m also incredibly grey compared to my peers and that started in my 20s.
All that said I definitely reject the middle age label, I might have life experiences and wisdom but - I’m young and will be forever young (in my mind!) - my kids think I’m old but hey that’s youth for you!
Haha, my very sensible dad had a mini mid life at about 60, just spontaneously got up at at 4am got a train to London (from Cornwall) to buy a motorbike he saw online. Just now sold the thing (about 5 years later).
Huge step, well done buddy! Definitely deserved that one. Do we have a video with Jesus music incoming?
Thanks dude, felt like a milestone and something that should have been done years ago at the same time. Just glad my sporadic training isn’t hitting strength too hard.
Unfortunately not, maybe next time!
Random physique photo, my calves started looking increasingly vascular - probably a combo of increased walking and the temperature:
Congrats on the PR dude!
Nice on the PR. Although I am pretty sure you have already lifted that amount, and you just come here and do it again every few months just for the accolades.
Congrats on pulling a PR on a REAL deadlift my dude!
@carlbm thanks for the program hint that was useful.
@Koestrizer @jdm135 @ChongLordUno @dagill2 new time for you to chase.
Funny enough that went wrong my foot straps on one side just undid after about 30 seconds, not sure how much of a difference that makes but it was off putting!
Thanks all.
Afaik not conventional (so still a PR!) which according to Pwn means this one actually counts! Although maybe I really am middle aged and just forgot…and I do like the accolades.
Haha, gotta say I definitely felt this significantly more the next day (or 3) than sumo pulling, my entire PC is lit up like a Christmas tree, in a good way, hoping this means a new spell of progress is incoming! (Might need to up the training frequency at some point).
Ouch that’s gonna be a hard one for anyone to beat!
I haven’t rowed in ages man
What are you trying to do to me!!!
Do it, do it, do it.
Show us that God tier Conditioning.
Thanks for the reminder tag. If my gym has one, I’ll do it in the morning after I fart around with the barbell. 500 m for time, eh?
Thats it.
Dark horse week 3 day 2
Conditioning:
Baking hot conservatory, 1 mile - 6m 38 secs.
Gs1:
Bb row: 60, 70, 70, 80kg X 5 followed by cable row: 40kg X 8 X 3
Football bar bench: 60, 70, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110kg X 5
Cable crunch: 40kg X 8 X 4 sets
6c Burpees: 5 X 6 sets
Gs2:
Cable row: 40kg X 8 X 3 sets
FBB: 90kg X 10, 8(+2), 5(+2.5) - roll of shame.
Etsotts:
Ohp: 30kg & blue band X 3 X 10 sets
Drained today, heat, food and a couple of badly timed shouts last night (plus might be carrying fatigue from those deads, really did feel those!), Got it done though that’s the important thing. Running wise I was on target for 10 min 1.5 mil (playing catch up with the slow start/ramp on the treadmill speed) but the heat was oppressive and then a door blew closed, be interesting to see how I do when it’s cooler, I think I’ve got it in me.
