Got it, satanic metal it is!

In all seriousness, I find I am less and less extrinsically motivated these days. I do what I have to do, no matter what music is playing.

Yes completely agree, once I get under the bar, particularly on heavier stuff, I genuinely don’t think I hear the music, or probably more accurately my brain doesn’t chose to recognise it. Might help on the build up to the lift I suppose, but I generally try to deliberately not hype myself up so I can maintain set up the same as every set, however the weight on the bar does still register and even when trying not to does change my mentality.

Me neither. I figure it’s just something to keep me entertained in any rest periods.

@alex_uk @dagill2 agree. There actually is no music playing during my setup/ lift because I film most of my sets and my phone isn’t into multitasking.

Today’s work:

Axle Bench 3’s
51, 61, 71, 81, 91, 101, 111, 121kg X 3

Incline:
60, 70kg X 3
75kg X 8 X 4

S/s

Standing cable row:
60kg X 10 X 4

Ez curl s/s cable spider curl:
28kg X 10 X 5
20kg X 10 X 5

Skull crusher s/s Tri pulldown
28kg X 10 X 5
20kg X 10 X 5

Sort of default PR on the bench, axle is new thought so to be expected. Incline up this week, shoulders not loving the axle today for some reason, incline wasn’t great either, but nothing major.

Rest of this was just pump work.

Amazing how much I dislike doing stuff in the mornings, feeling quite a bit of fatigue as well (slept well last night, so of course I feel worse today) which meant I really didn’t want to do this, did it anyway. Looking forward to Sunday off, might squat today, might do it Saturday, see how the day pans out.

Agreed 100% Even little minimal, light workouts feel really difficult at silly o clock.

Yup, not even close to a challenging session, but the mind fights me every set haha.

Unfortunately mines not even silly o’clock - 8am; although that may change soon, looks like out next placement will be arriving soon, and we’ve got a puppy on the way in a couple of weeks time, proper early morning are coming…

What does a proper early morning look like for you?

Watching folk do base building warms my cockles

Depends who starts it, if it’s me intentionally 530. If it’s fires I generally struggle to get back to sleep past 4. The last baby varied but anything from 30 min nap and wake up from 12-4 (then just get up because getting woken up is worse than not sleeping). Puppy - well that’s been a good few years since we’ve had one, but I gather once during the night then a 6am wake up.

On a weekend my natural wake up time is 730.

I tried morning workouts once. I woke up at 05.00 to eat. Then was in the gym at 06.00. Did it twice. And then folded. It was awful.

Haha never a truer word - although the last baby kept us up precisely because they couldn’t go, regular bowels are a blessing!

Let’s hope I get your cockles toasty then!

I definitely don’t do eating before hand, would rather go in fasted and underperform than fed and more sluggish than I normally am in the mornings, which is very!

Mate, my eldest had a stoma bag for 10 months, nappies are nothing.

I’ve tried a few times over the years to do morning lifting and it just doesn’t work. Cardio is fine though. I mean, it still sucks but not much more than normal. My cut off is 4am. If I have to get up before 4am to train, I won’t train. And I won’t eat solid food before. Something liquid with a few calories is all.

Training in the morning is for crazy people who don’t like to be awesome. There, I said it.

Crom laughs at you people that can’t train in the morning.

He laughs from his mountain.

The trick is to hate training so much that you just want it over with. And when you train first thing in the morning, you end up sleep walking through the first half of the workout, so you really only have to hate the last half of it.
