I’m learning this even slower than learning maths, which says a lot
My strategy so far has just been to complete any workout I have planned, even if it requires slowing down

Not to take anything away from it, because the last time I did this it was under the same conditions and I know exactly how much it sucks…but is it not a bit easier on a treadmill? I have always thought so, for a few reasons. Would like to actually experiment, but I have no access to a treadmill.
In any case, good stuff. Butthole.
Daily work:
5 rounds
Chins: 5
Dips: 10
Ghr: 5
Ab rolls: 5
Y raises: 5
Doing this post lifting session less fun than first thing in the morning. Added Y raises because shoulder health, or something.
Oh 100% agree treadmill is easier. I don’t think experiments are necessary anyone who’s ever run on both knows this, treadmill: no pace setting, no wind, even terrain, softer landing. Only reason I can hit a 7 min mile without training is just because it forces me to if I set it that way, only options are quit (nope!) Or fall off.
That’s exactly how I did it a decade ago the last time I tried it. Was not really in good running shape as such, just stubbornly set the thing on the required speed and endured it for 7 minutes.
I can’t help but notice that it says 7:01 minutes, which strikes me as slower than a 7 minute mile, so no dice I’m afraid.
Thats still irritatingly impressive and I think @Cyrrex might be on to something. Butthole.
Yea treadmill allows it to be an act of pure stubborness rather than ability.
Haha I was assuming one of you would pick up on that - I would tell you it’s just because I stopped the treadmill late, but really annoyingly it was actually that stupid slow start belt, maybe next time I’ll aim for a sub 7 time instead.
Its still a fantastic time though, can’t argue that.
I also noted his strangely low heart rate, and am now convinced that he only actually ran a Canadian mile.
I just assumed it was the roids. I refuse to believe that his years of consistent training outweigh my 2 months of middle age fat people training.
On the other hand, if he somehow manages to prove that the best way to get into running shape is to simply not do it? I would sign up for that.
There’s a lot to be said about building general fitness and strength, running or not. I ran my pr after a year of NOT running
With that said, you probably can only get so far from no specific training
I’ve tried that method. Maybe i was a non-responder or something because it didn’t seem to work well for me.
Yea, the HR monitor is Bluetooth and picks up my phone signal and gives all sorts of off readings I didn’t take HR manually but I’d guess it was probably close to max! Might have to get a Bluetooth chest monitor, think my C2 rower picks up BT as well.
Next time you have a treadmill available set it to 8.6mph and endure for 7 mins I’m confident you’ve got it in you.
Yea definitely, I think a 7 min mile is a general ok level of fitness and most people under say 45 could probably endure that pace for 7 mins. Which is sort of the point I was trying to prove. But I could be entirely wrong about that.
Went to the physio, was interesting: he anaylised my deadlift form and said that I initiate the pull from my lower back and that I need focus on driving through the heels to start the pull. Also there is a slight shift in my hips when I approach the bottom position, he recommended Ktape on the lower back to give feedback and being cognizant of the hip thing, trying to approach bar level.
He said in layman’s terms is “sprained” (not quite sure that’s what he said, but kind bruised type thing) a muscle in-between the discs and it’s getting constantly inflamed and re-aggravated
He recommended… Elevating the deads and slowly lowering the depth. (Plus dropping the weight and focusing on getting the technique right).
He also cracked my back in several weird and slightly pleasant but unpleasant ways and called me a big unit repeatedly whilst trying to crack (couldn’t fit arms round me) so from the complement point of view totally worth the £50, time will tell whether the other stuff was useful.
And I didn’t even have to go to school for this.
Haha, yup, funny thing; I’m always skeptical of physio type stuff, the fact that he recommended something you’d mentioned have him more credence, I had already taken you’re advice as solid.
