Alcohol Before a Workout

I should point out that when I said ‘drunk’ I really meant ‘slightly drunk’. Furthermore, everybody’s state while under the influence is different. Whenever I attempt to lift while under the influence of some alcohol, I am completely aware of everything I’m doing. I would not attempt something that could injure myself.

Lastly, I don’t lift very much. This is the workout I did Saturday night after drinking. I DID have a spotter, just in case:

Squat 1355, 1455, 1853, 2053

(didn’t feel like unracking the other plates so I stopped)

Bench 1758, 13520

(haven’t benched in 3 months. Last time I tried, 135 felt heavy. I do dip BW+85*6 though.)

Overhead press 135*6

(My gym doesn’t let me do this exercise. Only seated overhead press which I’ve done once in the past 3 months)

BW dips BW*10,8

(My triceps were sore from benching)

A while ago I went out, got DRUNK, did 20 pullups like nothing. I’ve never done over 12 while sober.

Also, the only time I’m able to do Single Leg Squats is intoxicated.

So, there ya go smart guys. Continue with your silly posts and/or mocking.

Peace.

WOW! You squatted 205 WHOLE POUNDS?! You must be a monster!

You’re an idiot. If you were anywhere near me in the gym and I smelled booze on you, I would grab you by your ear and toss you out of the gym.

Forget the fact that you’re endangering yourself: lifting weights (I was gonna say heavy weights, but then you posted your numbers) while drunk puts everyone around you in danger.

The number you should be working on improving is IQ.

  1. I will never go a to gym drunk. I’ve only lifted under the influence at home or friend’s house.
  2. I have a spotter.

Thanks.

i mean are all of your posts jokes? you really think that drinkin before a workout makes you lift more??? it sounds like you dont even regularly workout when you’re sober[/quote]

I haven’t worked out consistently for more than 2 months at a time. I tend to enjoy playing pick up games of football and basketball more than lifting.

However, I recently got bit by the weight training bug and love the weights.

My posts are kinda out there. We all think crazy things from time to time. The difference between you and I is that I’m not afraid to share them.

Thanks.

I’ve tried training drunk before, many years ago, and I was always— weaker. Several friends of mine who were college football players, said the coach use to have them drink a beer or two before a workout. To what end I am not sure. There have been a few studies showing a slight increase of testosterone with drinking alcohol, then the levels quickly reversed and plummeted.

Obo,

The issue isn’t that you aren’t afraid to share your ‘insights’, it’s that you are a nutcase.

You’re welcome.

I think I can finally say I agree with Harris on something

With 59 total posts, you’re one to talk about being a ‘regular’.

The plates were being used on other pieces of equipment. Is that what you mean?

Spoken like a true drunk driver.

Dumb idea. Try to rationalize it however you want. It will still be a dumb idea. Stop doing it.

Don’t get me wrong…I drink alot. But I would never consider trying to do squats in that state. I can’t even do anything worthwhile in the gym if I drank yesterday.

Not too mention the danger you pose to others in the gym if you’re a little loopy while you’re “lifting”.

i’m so mad i just read all of this. i wish i could have the last 5 minutes of my life back.

I agree that doing squats DRUNK is stupid. I only had some wine before doing them and used weight that I’ve done before, which as you can see, is very little.

I would never train DRUNK. I was just a little buzzed when I did weights. I had a spotter. Not a big deal. Arnold used to do it.

Wow so that explains you’re amazing gains.

Were they in use by other people?

You shouldn’t let things like fetching plates get in the way of your workouts.

Stop trying to justify yourself - everytime you do, you sound dumber and dumber

I’ll admit I have gone to the gym with a decent buzz before and had a really good workout…once! I tried it again (not planned) a couple weeks later and felt like shit. I couldn’t find the groove in any of my lifts.

I think it may be possible to do something like this if the alcohol reduces your inhibitions and you lose your fear of lifting heavy (relatively), but I don’t recommend it. When I was in the Marine Corps, I drank a lot, like every night, and we ran or did some other form of physical training four mornings a week. Some mornings I know I was still intoxicated, yet it eventually got to the point where the alcohol and hangovers didn’t bother me and I was able to perform well. But keep in mind that this was far from heavy lifting, it took months of shitty workouts to reach this point, and I’m sure my performance would have been much better without the alcohol.

In short, if you need something to get you geeked for big lifts try music or ammonia caps or something.

Good stuff. Yeah, I only drink about 1 or 2 times a semester. When I do, I like to do some form of physical activity and challenge my friends. Pushups, pullups, squatting people, lol. It’s all good.

And now we know why you’ve been getting mediocre resulta at best.
