They made a video of themselves practicing at the firing range shouting Allah-Akbar. They took it to a video store to have it transferred to a DVD. The technician at the store called the FBI who started an investigation.
Once the investigation started I’m pretty sure they tracked and wiretapped these guys pretty hard. They tried to buy fully automatic AK-47’s from a weapons dealer who also tipped off the FBI and cooperated with them.
I’ve been to Ft. Dix and McGuire AFB. They are right next to each other. It’s a wide open base and pretty rural. I’m not sure how much damage 5 guys with Ak’s would have done. Didn’t look like they actually could hit anything with them but I’m sure they would have killed a few people.
Hope they enjoy Gitmo.
I think a video tape with a group of people shouting religious war cries and firing AKs in a field might be enough evidence to get a warrant, don’t you think?
I think even saying the word “AK-47” is probably illegal in NJ. They have an assault weapon ban and extremely restrictive firearms laws.
It is enough to have the FBI look into who they are. At that point they found out a few were here illegaly, which is a crime and probably led to the warrant in an attempt to see if they had outside support and who else was involved.
Who know’s what else was on the DVD?
AK-47s are like so needed. I can’t imagine why they would be banned anywhere.
Who cares if police officers don’t want those weapons on the streets?[/quote]
I find the AK innacurate. Reliable but not accurate. I prefer an M1a or even an AR variant.
Police officers don’t want them? Not sure of the relevance.
The cops in Pa. hate restrictive gun laws. I shoot with a lot of them. Rank and file are a lot different from the leadership of most departments. The Mt. Laurel cops, who saw the video first, at the very least saw a weapons violation on the DVD, if they could catch these guys in NJ. Big stuff in NJ.
Just an fyi the Jersey 6 were going to buy fully automatic AK’s, on the black market, not from a legal dealer. Whether they were banned or not wouldn’t mean a thing.
