Agave nectar is high in calories - 1 tablespoon contains 60 calories, it is supposed have a low glycemic index. I have used it in the past and think it tastes good. Stevia is another plant based sweetener, it comes in several forms, I would recommend the liquid as opposed to the ground up leaves.
Agave is a good sweetner with an extremely low glycemic index. It does have calories though. I used to put it in my coffee,
actually there’s a brand of agave nectar made by sweet cactus farms that’s only 15 cals/4g carbs per teaspoon. it’s a bit pricey tho - $5.59 for an 8oz bottle around my way.
but i also use granulated fructose as well. it’s also 15/4 per tsp and costs a lot less. it’s a 20 on the gi scale as compared to 59 for sucrose.

Yeah, and they have the Raw version too(with the green cap) which is what I usually get. I like it and use it sometimes with cottage cheese and yogurt -type concoctions or to sweeten-up a shake. It’s a good natural product, just use it moderation and you’ll be good. Just as with any food, I guess.
[EDIT:] The green cap is actually from a brand called Madhava.
im experimenting making my own granola and i find this stuff is a very useful sweetner and a binding agent.
im on a mass again so cals = fine
hopefully no one is going to tell me some little known chemical fact about this syrup that will ruin it for me ;]
I use stevia.
