After The Flood: JDM135 Powersnatching In Paradise

Just got back from another hour of it LOL.
Saw some people doing it well.
Not me!

2/14/2026 Saturday, Valentine’s day.
Hour of surfing last night - WOW what an active day Friday was.
On top of the run, surfing, and tons of family walks, I also took two of the kids (one at a time) running and then biking.

Today, Saturday:
10-minute mobility stuff
Day D of the snatch improvement program:
-5 Power clean, Front Squat, Jerk
-3x8 FFESS holding a 45lb plate overhead
-4x5 Front Squat with 135

Still using a band to keep my knees from going too wide.

Happy Valentine’s day, folks!

I have the same sentiment. The ocean is amazing, but I am terrified of it. Growing up in Northern California, I knew folks who surfed, did abalone diving, etc. No way could I do that!

It’s far to large and there are things that can eat you before you see them coming. No thanks.

I didn’t grow up near the ocean, but I honestly have no fear of it. I’m smart enough to stay out of big waves, and I’ve had a couple scary experiences in bigger waves I didn’t belong in and was underprepared for, but those are just lessons learned.
I also don’t fear sharks. I mean, statistically, I just don’t think they’re a threat. Driving a car is by far the most dangerous activity most of us do (I hope). There have been some shark incidents on this island but compared to the population, nothing to worry about.
Man’o’war jellies SUCK but they can be avoided. And you aren’t going to DIE, just hurt.

Edit: “grow up” near the ocean, no, but “come of age?” - I mean, I really became a man doing circles in the atlantic and the arabian sea. Never got to touch the water there, though LOL.

2/16/2026 Monday, President’s day.
Presidents who cared more about their country and their fellow citizens than about their own ego or bank account. But I digress.

Day A snatch fixing program - tall snatches, snatch balance, snatch pulls, overhead squats with a 3-sec pause.
Then a run/walk expedition with my 12yo. Probably just under 2 miles covered with a combination of brisk walking, jogging, and sprinting up a hill.

I think it’s just the vastness that gets me. It’s like outer space. It’s too big for my brain to comprehend. And if I die, chances are no one will ever find any part of me. At least if I die in the woods somewhere, someone might come across my bones at some point.

Fair enough! We’re land mammals. Not birds, not fish (or whales). We don’t belong in the sky or the water, honestly, so being afraid of either makes sense.
(My initial impulse was to mention that you would PROBABLY wash ashore at some point, but even that’s pretty shaky - so. Well played!)

I do enjoy your subtle quiet commentary.

In 1976 my Gaffer took me to see Jaws. To be frank, I have never recovered from that. It scared the :poop: out of me. I have snorkeled the Grand Cayman and Cozumel and actually was slightly “injured” twice by other tourists who were afraid of sting ray and then a rather large fellow pushed me into a small reef where I met an urchin. They do sting, but I do blame the fellow who rammed me into the coral. Silly stuff, I know.

Oh man, I stepped on an urchin during an… incident… and got a foot full of spines. Was digging them out for days!!

2/19/26 Thursday
Started early, long before 6am.
First I did my 10minute mobility stuff.
Then, a 2-mile hill run.
More specifically:
1 mile to the park
10 pullups, 20 pushups, 30 squats
1 mile run home.
Was great, and I felt SO much better on the uphill portion - which is a real slog - than last time. I guess good sleep and whatever else contributed to my recovery made me in great shape today.

Many hours later -after a long and frustrating workday - I eked out my “Day C” o-lifting training:
Pause snatches, 85lb
Snatch Balance, 85lb
BTN push press, 85lb
Mobility work.
Discovered a major “I can’t move that way” thing with my hips. To make sure I’m not crazy, I had one of the kids do it - it was no problem for him - but I can’t even come CLOSE to this particular angle. WTF.
Anyway did all kinds of dorsiflexion stuff.

What were you trying to do?

A 90-90 sit.
Basically bend my legs in what, for many people, is a totally normal way.

Its not that I’m too tight or inflexible. The bones just won’t go that way. Its the same as if you tried to bend your knee or elbow sideways instead of the way it’s designed to bend.

20 minutes EMOM:
Power clean, front squat, and jerk - 135lbs.

Fun.

The crash pads are coming in handy!

2/23/26 Monday
Sunday, yesterday, was a 22-hour “fast”. Last caloric intake was Saturday night at 6:30, and first bite of calories on Sunday was at 4:30. Wife and I are experimenting with the idea of IF and OMAD, having heard good things.
This morning I’ve been really active so far:
10-minute mobility work
2.4 mile hill run
2.4 mile walk back

I’m very priveleged to have enough time and energy available to do this early on a Monday morning. Yes I got up at 4 and I’m working now before 7:00, but still, i’m acutely aware of what a luxury it is to be able to rest and train and eat healthy - most people can afford no more than 1, if any, of the above.

Still not loving the 4-day program.

Week 3 Day B
Tall Cleans
Drop Cleans (AKA clean balance, AKA drop front squats)
Front Squats - 5x3, 3-second pause at bottom, 145lbs - sucked!
RDL 3x6x145.

2/24/2026 Tuesday - that’s right, two-a-days! haha.
I was at the park with downtime while my kids had a game.
So, despite feeling like a dead battery:
5 rounds of:
10 pullups
20 pushups
30 squats

Holy Smokes that’s so hard.
Took about 2 minutes rest between each set, and each set TOOK about 2 minutes. The squats may have been the worst part! That’s a half-murph worth of calisthenics. Not bad for an afternoon, cold.
