Update for the week of 7/21 in review:
-Had the week off from my day job. Which was amazing. It’s a smallish startup and they do these kinds of things. Everyone was encouraged to unplug and, if you choose to work, do it in the background without involving others.
-I mostly took off from my other two jobs too - just a couple hours for each the whole week.
-Therefore, beach activities all week long except Monday and Wednesday, as previously noted.
-Saturday’s session was snorkeling, and I captured this photo:
7/28/2025 Monday
Gym after work:
-20 rounds, EMOM: 1 squat at 225lbs every round.
-1 mile run, good pace.
My body was NOT ready for squatting 225. I was sore by the 6th rep. Could barely walk after, and now (a couple hours in) I’m hurting. The DOMS is going to be nuts.
I did a couple other things - one set each of pullups, shoulders, biceps, and triceps - but nothing important or worth tracking.
7/30 late entry:
Due to kids being very sick I Didn’t make the gym.
In the late afternoon:
1.5 miles run
10 rounds nonstop of: one 4-pump burpee, 4 squats.
1.1 miles back.
27 minutes total for the 2.6 miles plus the pushups/burpees/squats.
Thighs destroyed. Cramping insanely during the squats. The second leg of the run was tin-soldier style and I was hobbling all evening.
Friday afternoon:
Holy hell that was FUN.
Water obstacle course with my 3 older kids (9, 9, and 11).
Heres a picture of a random guy climbing a thing. He fell off and I swam up and climbed it successfully.
Twas a TON of fun until the oldest got hurt bad lol.
8/5/25 tuesday
Flew all day Monday.
Local time, got to my room at midnight Monday night, got up at 5AM, and took a run along the beautiful Snake River because of course I did.
To quote Pwn, and I literally thought this as I dragged my ass out of bed on maybe 4 hours sleep, “I’m being the guy who DOES”.
Had a great but exhausting day all Tuesday.
Now it’s Wednesday, I got more like 6 hour of sleep this time, and I’m going to probably do the fitness center (DB squat+snatch for 20 EMOM) followed by a shorter run.
Impressed at the short duration of the trip or … ?
It was a quick work thing. Flew Monday, arrived near midnight; work stuff T/W/Th, flew out Thursday night.
Not a lot of sleep, WAY more socializing than I like, but a good trip nonetheless and I woke up early enough to get a run before each day’s activities.
Has anyone else noticed the T-nation forums now double-space every line break? I can’t stand it. Spreads content way too far out down the page.
Gym trip. Not logging everything, but, I did a bunch of snatches working up to 115lbs. They felt good, but also felt like it’s been a long time since I took any lift seriously. Part of me wants to again, part of me thinks that the track I’m on (just put in work when possible, not in pursuit of any specific goal) is actually fine for my age and place in life right now.
I also did a lot of pullups including BTN pullups, some DB rows, and several sets of shoulders (BTN and dumbbell).
And ran a mile on the treadmill, and took about a mile or 1.5 mile walk in the blistering sun after.
The gym was crowded as hell, as always. And… it’s honestly hard to deal with all the extra-tiny, deliberately-wedgied shorts in the gym. I feel like if I look anywhere other than straight ahead, I’m ogling a young woman’s backside. That’s not my intent, it’s not why I’m here, frankly I don’t care what your body looks like and I’m not judging it or (trying to) admire it. But when they are everywhere, it makes me feel awkward.
Like I’m in a strip club but just here to change out the light bulb and tighten the mounting hardware on the pole, or something.
