Advice/Opinion on Appealing College Class

Bugger. All I can really suggest at this point is to print out the emails (yours and hers) and go see her in person. Failing that, climb up the chain until you hit the head of department or something.

Oh, and chat up the school secretary/admin staff. They are amazingly powerful people.

Why haven’t you taken this issue to your school? How exactly do you stand to benefit if you manage to convince people here that what you’re saying is true?

This doesn’t make any sense. You have an 81% in the class, have at least one test left, and are going to fail the class because you didn’t do these “problem sets” which only count for 5% of your grade?

Either you didn’t read the syllabus and don’t understand how the grades work for the class, the way I read this was wrong, or else your teacher is on some serious drugs.
Yeah I think she might be haah. Apparently there’s 4 problem sets though. She sent me an email later saying the best grade I could get was a 75 which is a contradiction from her previous email. Not to mention my grade still showed an 815 after the class ended. Is this grounds for a lawsuite?
Lol, dude what are you goin to sue her for? Not doing your work? You didn’t do what amounts to 20% of the total grade. So highest you can get is an 80, if you ace everything else.
No lol, I’m frustrated becuase she had sent me and email saying I could only get 30%, so I didn’t take the exam and then later she said my best possible grade would have been a 75%. Blatant lie that resulted in me not passing. I also would have done the problem set if she hadn’t sent the first email
So…you’re a quitter? Not exactly what the Armed Forces are looking for, is it? Folding up tent in the face of adversity isn’t quite the reaction they’d like to see from recruits.

Maybe I’m misreading something, but…

it sounds like the class was laid out pretty clearly and YOU misunderstood it. Then your professor was kind enough to clarify for you and you misunderstood those e-mails. …Could it be that you are still misunderstanding something?

Step one: adjust your attitude
Step two: go talk with your professor.

my 2 cents.

haha fair enough point, I have sent email to the head of the department like friday, and they haven’t responded. Just want to make sure my thinking is rational. Not too sure because I’ve gotten vastly different answers. P.s. Thanks to everyone that replied

That’s possible I guess, but why would she say to me “I was looking at your grade and You only have a chance at getting a ‘D’?” Instead of just having me take the test again because of the tech issues? And since my grade says 71 with a 0 on the last test that she refused to let me take, I’m really confused.

sgdiablo:

from Bosworth and Johnson: 'Every man thinks meanly of himself for not having been a soldier or at sea…

The character of a soldier is high. They who stand the foremost in danger for the community, have the respect of mankind. An officer is much more respected than any man who has money. In a commercial country money will always purchase respect. But you find, an officer who has properly speaking, no money is everywhere well received and treated with attention. The character of a soldier always stands him in good stead.’ - Boswell

Join before it’s too late. I missed my chance due to life circumstances and I regret it everyday. I went to university instead BTW.

You should post the grade structure from the syllabus.

Were you the only one who had difficulties taking the exam or did others? How much time did she give you to take the exam? ( I have taken several on-line courses and the exams are generally available for several days.)

Your grading most likely reflected a higher score because the prof had not entered in all of the grading information.

Example: (Based on the assumption that problem sets are 25% and each of 3 exams are 25% of your total grade)
Exam 1: 92% (entered as 92/100)
Exam 2: 85% (entered as 85/100. means total is 177/200 = 88.5)
Problem set 1: 0% (entered as 0/25. means total is 177/225 = 78.6)
Your grade of 81.6 could have been shown at this point in the grading cycle. However you still have three more problems sets (0/75) to add giving you 177/300 = 59%. At this point, even if the exam was taken, the best possible grade is 277/400 = 69.25% which is a D.

Next time read the syllabus.

Forget some of this advice, she clearly messed you up dude. Complain until the cows come home, be a real pain in the ass and I guarantee a solution will come out of it. Just saying lick your wounds is terrible advice.

I’d just give up and take your licks. Consider this the first of many hard lessons you will learn going forward in your life. Learn how to fail at things whilst preserving your dignity, then to get back up, and keep moving forward.
This is absolutely retarded, and you are a huge fucking retard.
Get out of this thread.

Have I ever told you how cute you are when you do all that math stuff?
