Advice on Estrogen Management?

Hi guys,

24 years old, relatively active, try and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and fish etc. About three years ago now I began suffering with symptoms indicative of a hormonal imbalance. Numerous blood tests were done and it turns out my testosterone levels are low for my age, my thyroid is borderline underactive and my oestrogen, for no ascertainable reason, is extremely high.

Endo has put me on Tostran 2% gel and I apply six pumps daily. I have been on this regime since March and although my total testosterone has reached 26mnol (right at the upper end of the normal range), I still have a non- existent libido, ED, problems shedding belly fat and chronic fatigue and mood problems. Endo has now suggested I try Arimidex (Anastrazole) to bring my oestrogen down to a healthier level. Apparently high or extremely low oestrogen can negative the benefits of TRT and some of the erectile issues and mood problems in particular, he thinks can be traced to poorly controlled oestrogen.

He has suggested I try 3mg Anastrazole per week, as he is of the view trying to get it knocked out quicker is best. Anastrazole is typically quite a potent drug, so I would appreciate advice and insight from any guys on here who have experience of using it? What is an optimally healthy oestrogen level for a young man? Also, can oestrogen problems affect the effectiveness of ED medications like Viagra?

Any guys on here also had thyroid replacement as part of their TRT programme? Did taking Levothyroxine help at all with any of the symptoms?

You left out the most important number pertaining to your topic…

3mg weekly is insane and great if you’re a woman with breast cancer. Tropicals are known for increasing estrogen. You shouldn’t expect TRT to do wonders for you with less than optimal thyroid hormones are they work together in an attempt to restore metabolic rates. Low Free T3 slows down every cell in your body, how did you arrive at that your thyroid is underactive? If with the NHS, then I truly feel for you.

Complete labs will make this conversion much more productive, within normal ranges are a problem and is full of people with symptoms. Low thyroid function has some of the same symptoms are low testosterone, ED and low libido two of them. Low estrogen will prevent erections from happening even with ED drugs that you may not even need once you spend 1 year with youthful level.

Nobody knows for sure what healthy estrogen levels are, only that most men have erection and libido difficulties outside 80-150 pmol/L. Thyroid treatment depend on where your Free T3 and Free T4 are in the ranges and whether you convert Free T4 to Free T3 efficiently. T4 only treatment isn’t always good enough if you don’t convert well.

Most doctors are afraid to push TSH down below a certain point and this is why doctors are fine with substandard Free T3 levels after starting thyroid treatment.
