Advice for New Lifter Looking to Lean Out?

Yes.

So for example (and this is just what works best for me), I have dinner around 3-4pm, and if I’m hungry I’ll have a second dinner around 6-7pm. I am mostly only eating meat and vegetables and eggs at the moment. A couple nights per week I’ll have some figs or potatoes.

But you could do lunch + dinner or breakfast + lunch or whatever. I just recommend not eating within a few hours of bedtime. Try it for a week.

EDIT: I might add, that this is actually something you could just do 2-3 times per week, but I attempt to maintain it as a day-to-day lifestyle. Sometimes things come up or maybe I’m just really hungry at noon or have to make an accommodation, no problems.

I’ve actually been doing that for a few years now; I usually skip breakfast, eat lunch around noon and dinner between 5-7. But I’ve been pairing it with keto and calorie restriction and it’s been likely putting me in starvation mode.

Time-restricted feeding and calorie-restricted feeding are NOT inherently the same thing. With time-restricted feeding, you should absolutely be eating as much as you want or as much as you’re hungry for within the feeding window. Ideally this would be meat, veggies, whole carbs sources (if you require or desire carbs).

If you are hungry outside the feeding window, I suggest sucking it up.

I know some people like a big breakfast with a smaller lunch, or a small lunch and a bigger dinner.

At any rate, I personally prefer Vince Gironda’s take on things, Steak and Eggs twice a day (although it’s not always steak, I like ground beef or pork, cornish game hens, any meat but the denser the better). And you could also take a page from Poliquin and have Meat and Nuts.

I’m not always a fan of Luoma’s writing style but he has published some good stuff.

Hey, everyone!

So it’s been a week since I first started working out for-real, using all the advice and routines you’ve all suggested. I did see a change on the scale this week, though whether I weighed myself incorrectly last week or it all being water weight, I’m not sure.

I did start a Training Log in case any of you want to follow along. I’ll be posting there for a good majority of my fitness journey.

I’m hoping that I can keep with this regimen, start switching things up little by little, and eventually get to my goals by September (or at least close to them). We shall see!
