Advice for late first timer

I’m 65 years old and have never taken a steroid in my life before. I’ve recently had some health issues related to loss of leg and glute muscles and a slightly declining testosterone level.

I decided to take a beginners course as follows:

  • Sustanon 500mg/week 10 weeks
  • Anavar (oral) 40mg/day - 20mg morning/20mg night for 6 weeks

I’ve been lifting for over 35 years and my starting position was 182cm and 83.5Kg and approximately 19% bodyfat.

I’m now starting the PCT portion of the course Gonamax and Clomid in the second week with 1 week left.

I’ve followed all instructions to the letter and been eating clean.

My results have blown me away.

I’m now 97Kg and sitting at approx 12% bodyfat subcutaneous and total at 14% bodyfat.

I haven’t as yet regressed with strength or muscle gains but have started to notice the endurance side of things have declined. I was smashing out huge workouts for 50-55minutes super intense, but now can’t go as hard, down to 30 minutes.

I was also working out 5-6 days a week but can only do 3 on 1 off 2 on 1 off.

Are these figures normal for the amount I’ve taken?

I really didn’t overeat and still can’t believe I have gained so much muscle mass. I’ve also gained approximately 3.5kg in fluid (cellular level) - will this slowly go down?

I will be going through a cutting cycle after my PCT but it will be a natural 6 week progression, heading towards an 11% bodyfat level.

Also no side affects, although initially when I started the program I found myself getting a little short with some people over nothing.

Any advice or knowledge sharing would be appreciated.

Personally I would not be doing steroid cycles at your age. Have you looked into TRT? I can’t imagine your natural test production at 65yo is that great and now you’ve shut yourself down doing a cycle. I think recovery is gonna be an uphill battle. TRT would be much healthier and more beneficial for you at this point in the game.

So thanks for focussing on the age component, instead of what gains were listed.

I am extremely fit, have been all my life, running short course triathlons and the gym for over 30 + years. I look as if I’m in my early 50’s and my biological age currently sits at 45.

I’m also not looking at starting a family any time soon and I have done a great deal of research into this before I undertook the program.

I was asking for information on if the results that I’ve had are normal due to the large increases in muscle etc.

But thanks anyway

12% subcutaneous and 14% overall? You have more than 2% visceral fat. Olympia level competitors rarely drop below 3 to 4% as death usually follows.

How was you before and after calculated?
The numbers look suspicious.

It’s also too early to look at where you are now as opposed to where you will be in 6 weeks post cycle. It takes 5 half lives for esters to be out of your system and you are in what appears to be the third week of pct.

Not trying to be harsh but your numbers are not adding up.

I was not being negative about your age, I was being honest.

How you look/feel mean nothing for your health. Cycling steroids at 65yo is just not healthy.
What I did say was look into TRT for long term health and benefits but that’s not what you wanted to hear.
When you lose 95% of what you think you gained on this cycle you’ll be back with a different attitude.

I fixed that for you. You didn’t gain that much tissue. You gained water and glycogen and a little muscle.
