Camping gets an exception, as do family visits. I don’t think of those as “travel,” though, because camping is local and cramming into someone’s closet-like spare bedroom is not something I do for the experience of it, it’s something I do because family. Those events are approached with the same attitude I have about this week; anxiety and hopefulness regarding that it will be an ultimately worthwhile and pleasurable experience.
And hey, there’s always the joy of finally getting to come home!
But I just had THE BEST long weekend in Rockport, MA, wandering around the jetties, eating chowder, and drinking afternoon wine on the harbor (patio beers, lol). But it costs a chunk of money to eat chowder on harbors if you want to stay in a place that makes you want to stay forever, so it’s not like we go all the time.
Having kind of done that (totally cheating by driving from city to city then hiking from there), I have to say that it was definitely a trip worth taking. Would 100% do it again.
I had that same exact mindset, until I went to Hawaii for a graduation. I couldn’t believe how beautiful everything was and how awesome the people were. Now I like to explore different parts of the world and can’t see myself stopping anytime soon.
I think it does open your mind up and it’s good for the spirit. I also think that if you’re not willing to travel, you’re limiting yourself to the types and number of people you meet. Maybe all the guys in your area suck.
You don’t have to be a travel junkie, but I wouldn’t be so closed off to it. It’s like meeting someone who refuses to go to the gym, you’d be like “you have no idea what you’re missing out on!!”
