Wanted to get a little grip work in today (before tossing on straps) so I took a few small jumps and did a pair of singles (one with mixed grip in each direction) at 385, 400, 415…wanted to keep going but my little guy was starting to wake up from his nap & I realized I was about out of time, so I slapped a pair of 45’s on & did two singles at 505 with straps.
I think I’m officially at the point where I’ll consider a 700 deadlift my new lifetime strength goal. My body seems to respond fairly well to low-volume, high-frequency deadlifts; it’s my favorite lift to perform by far; and lifts between 500-600 are now so routine that I can imagine 700 happening in the next few years.
I swear when I left we were racing for a 4 plate deadlift, looks like you knock those out before breakfast these days. Good work man.

Re: chasing a 4 plate deadlift when you left, I was. It’s funny how things went from there: at first, once I picked up a barbell after a couple years futzing around with long distance running and cycling, I was just hoping to get to 405.
That came in January 2016, and then I decided “well, maybe someday I’ll get to 500.”
That came in summer 2016 (right before I got married), and then I decided “well, maybe someday I’ll get to 600.”
That came in summer 2017 (right before we bought a house). In the last year we got pregnant and had a baby so making more gains was not a high priority, but I have continued to make progress with my low volume, high frequency approach (and thanks in large part to having a garage gym which means I can always get my workout in). Most recent PR is 620 a couple months ago; I’m thinking the next big milestone is 650-something by next summer, and I now sincerely believe 700 is a possibly doable lifetime goal to chase.
Worth noting, I have gained some body weight during this time (was 210-215ish at the start, currently floating in mid-230’s, I would guess). I don’t really want to gain any more, but there’s room to lean out & then add a bit more lean mass.
How much has your physique changed during that time? Have you noticed a significant amount of muscle gain since January 2016?
Some muscle; a little fluff too. I’ll post a link to some deadlift vids from 2016 vs more recent but I know that’s not as good as shirtless pics lol.

I know that I’ll always be able to handle a little more weight on a traditional barbell thanks to the flex and smaller diameter, but this honestly might be my favorite deadlift variation. I really enjoy pulling from traditional height plates with axle & using straps.

Really happy with a 595 deadlift on the axle. Building some brute strength that gives me confidence in locking out heavy weights.
