So I did it. Pulled a new deadlift PR on my 32nd birthday. Four weeks after becoming a dad, no less. Video to come shortly.
Solid.
Great lift! I don’t know how you ever so gently put the barbell down. Lol.
Simple. My wife (who understands my love of lifting, and in fact spends some time with the barbell herself; she was doing squats 2x/week until 36 weeks pregnant) believes that if I drop the bar on heavy deadlifts it may damage the lovely house which we worked so hard to buy & upgrade. I think that’s a bit of a stretch, but also know that I will never live it down if our house shows any signs of structural issues, so when she’s home any deadlift has to be put down reasonably gently so inside the house she doesn’t hear any more than the dull thud you heard on this video.
It’s hard to imagine my love for a woman surpassing my love for dropping a heavy barbell after pulling a PR…
My wife had the same concern. I showed her the compressive strength tests and stated I won’t ever lift over 1,000lbs. lol.
She still doesn’t like to be ‘jarred’, though.

So, with another successful 600+ deadlift in the books, it’s time to turn my attention elsewhere for a little while. I’d like to get better at strongman “events” (sandbag & farmer’s walks for now) and increase my squat. Of course, the other goals named here will all still help that deadlift.
A nice set of numbers to chase by next year would be:
Front Squat 1x405
Back Squat 1x500
Deadlift 1x605+
Axle Deadlift 1x545
I really want that 500 back squat. When I came back to lifting a few years ago, I didn’t really know it would go this well so I never considered that I might need to set higher goals. I’m still prioritizing life and health more than absolute limit strength, but I now think some things are possible that I hadn’t considered. After re-upping my deadlift PR for my 32nd birthday, it would be pretty cool to post a 500 back squat to go with that 605+ deadlift by my 33rd birthday. The game is on. Let’s do this.
Go get it man!
Congrats on the PR!

And the march towards a 500 pound back squat begins anew. I set a goal of a 500 deadlift for my 30th birthday: achieved. Set a goal for a 600 deadlift by my 31st birthday: achieved. Set a goal of beating that 600 deadlift by my 32nd birthday: just achieved. Next up: a 500 back squat by my 33rd birthday (August 14, 2019). Here goes!

Not giving myself full credit for the PR here; upon video review the lockouts were a little soft. Need to redo this for it to count in my mind.
