Was going to do a max-effort-ish day today, but ended up with kindergartner staying home sick from school. He was a little trooper and played toy trains in the garage while I lifted, but I’m still a little leery of going really heavy with my kids around so I just did easy doubles on the way up and stopped at 275 instead of setting a new 2026-max.

Top single at 455 felt good. Tough but not a full max effort. I think I’m probably still good for 495 on the right day, but will stay the course and keep building my base.

Bonus addition today! I decided to treat myself to a pair of Rogue’s 26ER Wagon Wheel bumper plates. I did have a pair of Titan Fitness Wagon Wheels a few years ago but only used them sporadically and sold them. More recently though, with my interest in strongman & using conjugate-ish ideas, I think having the option to mix in some Wagon Wheel deadlifts with my regular sumo pulls is a nice idea. I have to admit that I still feel like I have trouble with this height compared to pulling from the standard height, but this time I’m looking at it as a fun challenge to overcome. I was honestly pretty happy to work up to 405 today.
Also for posterity, whenever I log “Wagon Wheel Deadlifts” I will be using an axle.

Had to adjust a bit on the fly today, this was just a quick little tester / fun with my new toy that I had to squeeze in about 15 minutes. I am thinking that maybe I’ll start doing Wagon Wheel deadlifts for higher reps on my “strongman event” day - I actually have the glimmerings of an idea for a “mini-competition” day that would make for fun Saturday workouts. Something like a log clean & press for reps, wagon wheel deadlift for reps, farmer’s walk event, and sandbag carry or shouldering. I could set up all the events and then do each event for a 60-90 second window, resting about 10 minutes between each, and tallying the total number of “reps competed” as my “score” for the day, working to improve my score.
