Yeah! I couldn’t think of the name off the top of my head though.
Thats pretty much what we did too. The three of us in the neighborhood that have kids about the same age would take them out there & cut them loose.
Thanks! I’ll pass that along to him too.
My thoughts on the future are very similar. I was growing up right in the transition from manufacturing to tech, and didn’t quite see it coming.
So yeah, i want him to be equipped for what ever the world will be doing, and those are great tools for the job.

My one neice and her husband love rock climbing. I don’t know when or how she got into it, but they have a great time with it. .
It’s super humid here and my floor was feeling pretty slick, so I was a bit nervous about foot slippage in sumo deadlifts today (even though that’s my preferred stance for going heavy). Even with my nice & grippy deadlift shoes, I could feel how slick the floor was and decided not to risk it.
Anyways, took the opportunity to see where I’m at in conventional stance with a deadlift bar. In this chapter of my lifting life, I do plan on training both styles; as my box squats go up and rebuild my strength base, I’d like to hit a goal of deadlifting 495 in both stances on the same day.
I took a few weeks off from kettlebell pressing to let my shoulders calm down, the left in particular had been feeling cranky in the spring. I think I just have to watch the total volume & make sure that I’m doing appropriate “pulling” for balance. Going to bring back pressing slowly (maybe just one session per week for a while) along with plenty of pull-ups for some upper body balance.
This was honestly kind of dumb. I started off with the vague notion that I’d do the half hour deadlift workout in conventional stance, but I did a bunch of yard work this morning, took my kid rock climbing early afternoon, and it’s super humid so like 10 minutes in that just seemed like this was a dumb choice. Then I decided, like an idiot, that I haven’t pulled heavy sumo for a while, so I just switched to sumo mid workout and worked up to a post surgery PR. The 465 pull was hard but there’s more in the tank, especially on fresh legs instead of tired legs like I had today. Honestly this was kind of a dumb decision and I feel lucky that it worked out. I really should just stick to the script of Mon / Wed / Fri as my 3 key heavy workouts and do pull-ups or kettlebell stuff (or heck even just rock climbing) on the between days. Come on, stick to the plan!
Felt really good today. Squatting with chains is so much fun. The deloading at the bottom takes a little strain off the lower back, then the chains help the quads really get some extra work at the top. I was a little rushed so I didn’t do 12 doubles, decided to just go up to 4 chains per side and do three top sets. Basically zero rest - just long enough to add the weights and reset. My back and legs have not felt this good in years.
I’m not allowing myself any more than 5-pound jumps at a time from previous post-surgery max because I want slow & steady progress, but as my strength grows I think I’ll want every “max effort” workout include 10 total sets. For now that will have a couple of working sets at the top weight since I get to the top weight by the 6th set. As I continue to add weight this will get stretched out so fewer sets are done at the day’s top weight (eg by the time my top set is 405 this would be stretched out as 135, 165, 195, 225, 255, 285, 315, 345, 375, 405).
