Rock solid on both sides. Really happy with this. May be time to buy that 106 for myself; Christmas present?

So I am coming into a tricky season of work, and the weather today was miserable. I might actually just stash a kettlebell in my office where I can discreetly do some little press workouts while I’m on a call (I have lots of calls for work, only some of which I really have to be an active participant in).

So I bought a rubber-coated 53 pound kettlebell which I have now stashed in my home office. I may need to use this for during-the-day workouts from time to time when I have to be on some meetings that don’t require very active participation. I may also use it as a quick indoor warmup before heading out on my pull-up workouts as I’ve noticed my pull-ups tend to feel a lot better when I do a little something else first.

Dude, I just gotta say how much I love that, no matter what drama is happening on this site or the world at large, I love how I can always count on you to show up and log your training and be on your way. The consistency is admirable, and the reliability is comforting.

Had a little spare time during the day today, and it’s a much colder day than lately, so I decided to sort of “treat myself” by going to our rec center to work out so I could a) do my pull ups inside and b) use the hot tub afterwards. The gym only has some light KB’s but they do have a fancy pair of competition 35 pounders so I decided to just crank out a big set of reps after my pull-ups.
Thanks! Very much appreciated and quite meaningful coming from someone such as yourself. I have to admit that I feel a bit bad not checking in on other contributors’ logs as much as I used to. Goes with the territory of having two small kids and a bit busier job than I used to (which has positives too, of course).
Exactly what I’ve done over the years has changed, but the commitment to “just doing something” hasn’t. Having my hernia surgery was an interesting “reset” moment, and while I’m anxious to get back to the barbells and some heavier duty training, I have enjoyed the last few weeks of a very stripped down program of just pull-ups and kettlebell press. This time I really am going to buy and press that dang 106-pound kettlebell (Christmas present to myself, I think).
I’ve also been thinking that if I really had to - because of limited time, health, whatever - I think I could manage indefinitely with the basic framework I’ve been doing these past few weeks.
Today being a notable exception (light day of work with no impending deadline - I’m well ahead on my current project), I usually get my kids out the door by about 8, really try to focus on work from 8-3 and then go down to work out at precisely 3pm (my older son gets off the bus at about 3:15-3:20). So it lines up perfectly for these modest daily workouts.

Three solid presses apiece with the 97. I think I’ve mentioned this before but one odd thing about going up from an 88 to a 97 is that the handle is a little longer so it changes the leverage slightly. It’s notably heftier in the rack position but it oddly makes the press a little easier because the longer handle sort of shortens the effective range of motion. Will be curious to see what this is like when I get a 106.
