For the pull-up workouts, I now will be on a 16-minute clock (what can I say, I like numerical consistency) doing one set every 2 minutes. The first seven sets will be triples to get me good and warmed up and primed, the final set will always be a 10+ (daily max) set.

Took it a bit easy today, just did the 70’s as a warmup because I wanted to get a nice crisp video of a beautiful press with the 88 for the August Check-In Thread. Body feels pretty good. Weighed in at 218.6 this morning.

I posted it over on the Check-In Thread, but here is the video of pressing the 88, for those of you curious what I look like right now:

Gonna mess with this a bit and see how it goes. The inspiration for this came from wearing my 37-pound toddler on our recent family walks (my wife wore him a lot as a baby, but now she’s wearing the new baby, and I felt like a slacker with no resistance on walks while she was wearing the newborn). That’s been fun, and I realized I have a reasonably sturdy backpack and enough small change plates to give this a whirl for a few workouts. Even if it’s just a change of pace in the end.

I don’t feel like buying a weighted vest - this is close enough for now - and I far prefer the feeling of “wearing” the weights in a backpack versus holding them on my feet or adding a dip belt. For now, anyway. We’ll see if my feelings on the matter change over time.

First time pulling in about two months. I’m also about 10-15 pounds lighter than I was the last time I pulled heavy. But, this all felt okay. I’ll continue my pull-ups and kettlebell work as the mainstay but as long as my lower back feels okay, will add a once-weekly deadlift session with weights in the low-mid 300’s & see how it goes for the next four to six weeks.

And he is back. Quality

I’ll allow myself to be called “back” once I’m comfortably pulling (at least) 405 again, and not before!

I can be down with that. I’ll be watching you get back up there mate.

This felt okay, not great. Will need to ease into this for a few weeks and make sure I can tell the difference between “my back is still cranky” versus “my back just needs to re-acclimate to deadlifting after 2 months off.”

For the next few weeks, I really truly promise myself to deadlift once per week and no more (probably going with Saturdays, depending on work and child care). I’ll stick with about five singles at 315 as the working weight for now, and if thing are going well by the end of September, will nudge that up to 345, and proceed from there.
